Hi
I have recently just bought a lovely 16hh 6yr old Hanoverian X TB. What are everyone's opinions on this breed for showjumping, as this is what I am mostly going to be competing at. Would love to hear about people's experiences aswell with the breed. Thank you! Xx

I have one and she was an eventer before I bought her, while I don't compete sj I do jump at home for fun and she is the most talented jumper I've ever had (and I did used to sj!)
They're all different but she is very agile and brave and if someone wanted her to jump they would have an amazing time!

One of mine is han x tb. He was a showjumper before I bought him and turned to dressage. Huge powerful jump, but he is 17.1 powerhouse. I actually stopped jumping when I bought him as his jump was just to unnerving!!

Oooo very nice! Defiantly a big boy - think my mum would have a heart attack if I had one that big haha!xx

It really depends on the horse as Hannovarians are just a warmblood and most sport horses could be registered to the studbook and then be called a hannovarian.

But for what its worth my horses sire is a hannovarian (HanxHol) and her dam an ISH (TB 3 generations back) and she is the most incredible jumper!

Temperament wise she's incredibly sweet and quiet but can get very wound up, hot and sharp. on the ground she's as quiet as a lamb and the same in the field wouldn't say boo to a goose!

Did you not jump him before buying?

I only know of one horse bred like this and he is a bit nuts when it comes to jumping. Big 17.1hh horse strong and knows it. Have seen him being ridden by a professional rider who has lost control at times but quickly regained control. Prone to bucking as well and had his owner off once or twice. He requires a very strong and very confident rider.

Depends on the horse. As you want to do jumping I would assume you jumped him when trying him out so know if he is a good jumper or not.

The Hanoverian x TB mare who I owned for about 5 years was a lovely dressage horse and also turned out to be great for long distance but was definitely not a jumping horse, although she had been bred for that purpose. Much better men than I tried to make her into a SJ but never succeeded. Just as with humans, they will have their strengths and weaknesses, make the most of the strengths.

Breed-wise this is a perfectly suitable cross for show jumping, but it's all down to the individual horse in terms of talent and desire to do the job. It's pretty much impossible to judge on breeding alone!
