I turned him out at about 8am this morning, and decided to go to the yard again at about 11am as I wanted to go for a hack with him... I go up to his field to catch him and bring him back to the yard, and on the way we trotted a bit and he was grand... I then tie him up on the yard, give him a quick groom and then from his near side I noticed that his off-hind shoe was missing... I go to his offside to check his hoof was alright, and I gasped when I saw that a fair bit of his hoof where the clenches were was hanging off (sorry I can't explain it very well)... I hosed off all the dirt, pieces of grass etc. stuck underneath and then applied some Cornucrescine... I then walked him back up to the field just to double check that he wasn't lame, and on the way over the piece of hoof which was hanging off had come off... I walked him into the field, and the clever lad trotted in a circle on each rein for me and then cantered, it's as if he knew I was seriously panicking and he wanted to reassure me... He isn't lame at all this evening either fortunately *touch wood* even though a pretty big chunk of his hoof is ripped off... I've tried calling my farrier several times but he isn't answering his mobile - typical...
