My mum has now said my mare Coco can go to France to have babies, there wasn't room for her before and I was busy doing a bit of everything with her.

I don't know why but I'm having mixed feelings about it, so soppy but I'm going to miss seeing her face everyday so much! She is a complex character, and really rewarding to be around.

The plan is to put her straight to Grafenstolz this year.

I'm not interested in getting into any Graf/Ken bashing on here, so please don't start! but if anyone wants to take a look at her (pictures in my album under Cocopops) and let me know what you think constructively then please do.

Obviously being in rural France (Pompadour is the local stud) we are a bit more limited to stallions, but I think Graf will work for her.

She is 10 now, 16.3hh, but fairly short in the back, full TB by Andes.

I'm thinking of having her back over here after she has had a foal, is this crazy?! It costs about £700 each way to transport!

If you contact the Haras Nationaux (you will have to anyway as she will have to be reg with them ;) ) they have loads of stallions & of course you have many, many private studs that do AI and can send it to HN at Pompadour for your mare to be put infoal.

Before the HN (& any other stud here) will cover her she will need a S.I.R.E number otherwise they won't do it.
Breeding in France is a lot different to the UK, what paperwork (passport) the foal can get all depends on what the stallion & mare can produce.
For example just because a stallion is a graded SF doesn't mean with just any mare the foal would be SF, the mare has to beable to produce SF aswell.

We have already bred 3 up at Pompadour HN, however it has all been privatised there now, so it's all change.

I was hoping to use Yarlands Summersong again, but I'm not sure what is happening with him at the moment (he usually stands at Pompadour for some of the season even though he is privately owned).

All the paperwork check etc is why I would need to send her now, before the season starts, but it just seems to have come around so quick, and I wanted to hang onto her for a bit longer!

The joys of the French breeding system, we have registered 2 (full sisters) and have had problems registering the mare in their passports! They don't recognise her as she is a UK bred IDxTB! She is well bred with some outstanding relatives so I really want her detailed in their passports!
 
My parents have their own place, land, stables, menage etc. in France.

I only keep my horses on DIY livery here, so it works out cheaper to breed in France.

I work full time, so wouldn't have the time to breed. My parents are at home all the time with them so 24/7 supervision.
 
Never had a problem when reg my British warmblood mare here and with the 2 foals she has had in france one is reg SF by TB stallion (he is graded with SF) and the other was by gypsy/welsh cob stallion and the foal was reg as cheval de selle.
Both have all of her breeding in their passports.
what passport has your mare got? because as a norm most uk passports are reconised here :confused:

I'm putting her infoal again this year to a private owned coloured SF stallion, he's the other side of France but they will send it to our local HN station :)
Did try to put her infoal to Mylord Carthago last year but she never came in to season so it wasn't ment to be :rolleyes: but she's in season now so next month off she's goes :p
 
We also tried Mylord this year with my WB mare, but she didn't catch, we were gutted.

She is now in foal to Tilippe Le Belle, due end of May/start of June. She was scanned with twins, as per my prevous thread, but all sorted now. Fingers crossed

I'll have to have a look at her passport, I know it has been sorted now, and the youngest filly has all the mare's details in her passport.

So are you going to try Mylord again?
 
she's going to a 17hh coloured SF jumping stallion this year carn't wait :D i've got all fingers (& everything else lol ) crossed that she has a filly version of her coloured colt (that she had in 2009) next year.
But you can bet your money on her having a chestnut colt :p because it will be her last foal.

Im also a big fan of Tresor Mail, met him at the stallion event at hartpury and he was so so sweet. *swoon*

Please explain the privatisation of Pompadour? We went to a superb training day last week at Lion D'Angers, this was still run under Haras Nationaux (many national studs), HN has combined with other organisations such as Ecole National at Saumur to form IFCE.

I was not aware that it had all been privatised.

As for IDxTB when we moved to France the Cleveland Bay was not recognised as a pedigree horse but now it is. The same for the Dales ponies now recognised as pedigree.

I presume you have looked HERE but just incase! ;)

I didnt think so, but I dont like them too long in the back...
he was so sweet in his box, in that atmosphere with all the stallions coming and going he just wanted a scratch!! :)
 
Luckily my mum speaks French, but our stud would deal direct with Brullemail for us.

He would work out cheaper than Graf

Very good advice already given on here, Pompadour isnt that far from me.

I always liked the look of Yarlands Summer Song too.

If it makes life easier, my mare is reg SHBGB, and she was accepted by the French for competition, no problems. Is your mare reg by them?
Or is that a different ball game?

By the way, Wynter, do you mind me asking the name of the coloured jumping stallion you might be using? PM if you prefer.

OP, all the best, I am sure your mare will be ridden again after foaling, and £700 ew seems a smallish price to pay for getting her back for you to enjoy!
 
I have 2 by Yarlands, he is amazing. He loves to show off when you go to see him.

I have thought about using him for Coco too, just slightly concerned I will end up with a hot headed feisty beast. My 2 fillies by him are out of a very chilled out mare, and they should only make 16.1hh. Coco however is a little more feisty and stands at 16.3hh.

Pompadour is a great stud, I hope it doesn't change too much. I think there were problems initially as she is an ID x TB cross. They didn't list her lineage on the first foals passport, but it is now on her second foals! It was all a bit confusing.

Amy_b I don't want to look on the Elite Stallions website, there are too many gorgeous boys on there that I can't afford!

I liked the look of Fidertanz for my big Rhinelander mare...more to think about for next year!
 
Just remembered SIRE is just around the corner from the HN.
could you maybe pop in there with a big box of chocs?

Just a quick update on Coco.

She is now in France and having a great time, her and my 4 year old who look very similar are in love!

We have decided to go with Tresor Mail, so thank you very much for the suggestion (I hadn't even considered him until you mentioned), fingers crossed it will all work out.

She goes up to Pompadour stud on Monday, and should come into season shortly after.

I just feel bad for her not actually getting covered, as she is the randiest mare I've ever met. She literally humps the wall when in season!
 
Just a quick update to let you know that Coco is finally in foal to Tresor Mail. :D

It took 3 attempts and the stud don't seem too confident that she will keep it as they found her to be very hot and a bit of a handful when in season!

She is now back home and everything is crossed and the worry commences for the next few months!

Ours is in foal but slipped one at some point last year so dont feel like I can get excited about this one for a while yet! :(
 
I know how you feel, at the moment I am trying to forget she is pregnant so that I don't get too excited. I'm sure that will all change in a months time when I see her though!

Fingers crossed for you, hoping you get a lovely foal this time around
 
Iv been waiting for this post...!! Im going to be super proud when he is winning badminton and I can tell aaaallll my friends he wouldn't be here without me...! (Hahahaha!!) also very jealous...!
 
On second thoughts...I won't be super happy if he's winning badminton because it'l mean mine isn't....! 😳
