Today I was very happy that I own a horse, I was working near the stables this morning so popped up to see her at lunchtime. It wasn't raining or windy, the sun was shinning and she was in her stable so we had a spontaneous hack round the village. It was first time I had taken her out on her own for a few months and she was really well behaved, we have been hacking round the village regularly but usually with a friend. I went back up this evening for a lesson which also went well. We have had her for just over a year now and while there have been definite ups and downs today was a good day. I was also a little bit proud of myself for hacking out alone and just getting on with it.

That is what I do. I was used to riding first, ahead of my escort and too ignorant to know that many horses dont hack alone. But in context of the past, many people like my gt grandfathers a vicar and a doctor could own only one horse on which they made house calls. Or OH's grandfather had one horse to take a cart of cabbages to Wakefield market.
