After schooling my lad today, since the weather was good I thought I'd take him out for a hack. Especially as we haven't hacked out in a while since last time we went he was an absolute twit and cantered home..

Anyway after being told about a lovely 3 mile stretch of gallop which is literary 200 meters away from the farm I decided to test how face this ex-racehorse could really go.
I was quite hesitant in case his breaks weren't too good but after taking him into a slow canter his brakes weren't too bad, a bit reluctant to stop but he was enjoying himself.
After cantering about a quarter way down the 3 mile stretch I asked him for a slow gallop and pheeeeeeeeeeeeeew, this horse can really go even at a steady gallop. He was very reluctant to come back from his gallop and when I pulled for him to slow down he went faster

Absolutely terrified I put all my faith in him and dropped - yes dropped my contact and he immediately started to slow down, which was a relief.

After taking him back to walk he was being a bit arsey on the way home, wanting to trot but thankgod for the side reins from stopping him putting his head in the air to try and evade contact.

As H&H rules you can't have a happy post without pics, here's a pic after we came back. He was shattered :D
