So Boyo has been testing us a bit since we started riding him, planting, spinning and tanked off with my co-loaner a few weeks ago in the field.
Apparently he gets very excited and forward going when jumping, and I have never jumped in my life (tried as a teenager on a fat lazy cob and fell off every time so gave up
)
Well I rode him today in the field and he was an absolute superstar! We did lots of half halts, halt, walk & trot transitions, and I was chuffed to bits to have our first canter - he was really comfy and I felt 100% relaxed and in control - just the way it should be
Decided I had my brave pants on and so took him over a pole laid between 2 jump wings, first at walk a few times, then at trot where he did a little pop over it, and finally at canter, again with a little pop - I loved it, he loved it, he was the most responsive he has ever been, and his owner who was watching commented that we looked fab, and that you could really tell Boyo was enjoying himself
So baby steps to some, but I have had a massive grin on my face all day, and have decided I WILL start jumping this summer, and will have lots of fun learning to do so if today was anything to go by!
He got lots and lots of praise and cuddles, and I possibly accidentally sneaked him a mint or two
What a fabulous boy!
