The last few months I have been having issues with my 5yr old, napping alone & in company to the point I would have to get off, he always felt tense & when he got frustrated or nervous he wouldn't jog, but would do this silly potter walk like he was standing, but walking on the spot (if that makes sense). I just couldn't seem to get that click/bond with him & even considered selling him.
Anyway recently I have started lunging him once a week & since lunging him he has been like a different horse to ride he is so relaxed & calm. I took him out last week for a 20 min hack alone & was perfect, so today I went out for about an hour & I could of just kept riding. Something did spooke him in the woods which made him become tense & spooky, but after 10 mins settled straight down & relaxed. He tried to nap once as he wanted to go down one track & I wanted to go down the other, but within 10 seconds he gave in & we carried on. Even my mum has been shocked at how relaxed he has been out hacking recently.
Don't no whether the lunging has had any baring on it, but I finally feel a little click now
Sorry for pointless post, it was just so nice to go out for a nice hour just the 2 of us. I am still smiling now
