Last week I finally took my courage in hand replied to a sharer wanted advert. :D I've just been for my first trial ride on him and we got on really really well. Was told he was a bit uncertain about hacking on the road and not keen on being first but today he went first and totally ignored the traffic and scary farm yard implements. :) I've not been riding that long so I didn't know if I'd be right for an ex racer TB but it went soo well that she's happy with me riding him and best of all he seemed happy that I was riding him.
Sorry, had to share as I'm sitting here grinning about it still. Low carb snack anyone :D so grateful to horse owners who are willing to share their lovely animals with a novice rider.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to share your experience or offer advice. :D :D

Brilliant! I have a lot of sympathy as I've been in your situation a couple of times, first try out is always a bit scary but there's lots to look forward to :)

Brilliant, that sounds great- well done you for being brave and replying to the advert. I'm trying to find a share at the moment but wimpiness about replying to adverts is impeding my progress! He sounds lovely- you're going to have a fun summer!

What is it about the wimpiness!!! I'm going to meet a friend of my friends mum tomorrow to see if we can work something out, but I'm so nervous. I was nervous making the call and I've wimped out of replying to sharing adverts loads!!!

Stupid!!!

Sounds good, you must be pretty chuffed! :)

I've had a pony on share for the last year, just given him up as I'm buying my own :) It's a great way to get in the horse care and riding without having to spend as much (or as much time).

Atlantis...good luck for tomorrow...and get on that phone! :D

Thats brilliant TrasaM really hope you enjoy the horse loads. Hope you dont mind me saying though (I am old, and a mum, and always fuss about safety) - just be prepared for the odd bit of playing up, as TBs / ex racers can have their moments. So proper gear including body protectors and making sure people know where you are going is a really sensible thing to do.

Good luck! - and well done . :)

Good luck for tomorrow Atlantis .. I'm so pleased I did it. I'd put off answering the ad for a few days too

Tobiano. Thank you. I normally wear a BP but lent it to a friend and must get it back as I've promised family that I'd wear ALWAYS it after I got broke last year:o I'm a bit old myself actually so possibly why I'm feeling so pleased about this:p
His Owner was really pleased with how he was with me today and asked if I'd drugged him before we went out :D Fingers crossed that he will stay that way too.

I'm so grateful to my RI for getting me to where i am and my favourite and very sensitive RS horse who's taught me how to relax and keep calm.

Who you calling old lol!!!

I managed to make the call ok buy was nervous. I had to csll as my friends mum said i would. i think I' nervous because ive been out of the horse world for a few years now. Sold my boy 6 years sho abd havent had a share since before i was pregnant. I can't ride tomorrow as I've got no boots but im popping over to check it out and meet the lady!! Our house flooded in November and all my riding gear was in the cupboard under the stairs!! So I've ordered some new ones from derby house but they're going to take a while to come. Got to borrow some in the meantime.

I'm so pleased your ride went well TrasaM and here's to many more!!!

Yay .. Well done. And here's to us both..:)

Aww yay :D exciting! I bet you'll learn loads. Sounds like his owner is really pleased too, win win.

You're sort of inspiring me to be less wimpy about replying to adverts :D (as long as there's no phone calls because they are doubly scary)

Thanks :) it was on preloved so I sent a message. I know what you mean about phone calls. It's knowing what to say and introduce yourself ..difficult.

Well I went... and they were soooooo lovely and the old boy was fab. Rode him on the school he's very well schooled if a little lazy but it was hot!!! I ended up doing some flying changes!! Not very good ones but he changed!!!

As an owner, I'd like to thank the sharers, too! I've just found a fab new sharer for my newly sound boy  (fingers crossed he stays that way!). She thinks he's fab, she's happy to do chores and isn't afraid of asking if she's not sure about things. I'm thrilled with her :D

I think Preloved is good, you can email back and forth before committing yourself to a call, but I'm glad to say that my sharer was by word of mouth from the RS where I livery. Despite a very obvious advert, or so I thought, I still got very young riders answering and I really wanted someone who could get on without me having to help.

Well done ... Cheshire cat grins all around :D double win if he's already well schooled AND a potential new horse. Def :D:D:D Mine isn't but I am in the process of being taught how to school so we can learn together I'm sure :) I'm riding again tomorrow too :p

I was like 😱😱😱 when she suggested trying a change. I said oh I haven't done that in a while and she laughed and said "just swap everything over" so I did!! They were mostly late but the last one felt good, all coordinated and I didn't nearly fall off lol!!!

:) I had a lovely text from owner last nite thanking me :) so I'm really keen for this to work. I know it must be a huge worry trying to get someone that your horse likes and trusts.

Hope you are up and about again soon CT. are you back at work yet?

How exciting, and what an inspiring post! I'm trying to pluck up courage to apply for my first share so it's great to hear yours has gone well. :)
Have fun with him and remember to post pics!

Congratulations both of you for plucking up the courage to go - you won't regret it and there will be hours of fun ahead of you!

I finally plucked up the courage to answer a sharer wanted advert nearly 4 years ago. I had been out of the horsey world for many years while university, work, marriage and kids took over - so was very nervous and extremely clueless. Fortunately the owner was wonderful - despite my horrendous try out where I was so rusty I couldn't even get him to canter :D I ended up sharing him for 18 months, having him at home on loan for 6 months and then....buying him last year!

So if I hadn't plucked up the courage to answer that ad I wouldn't be looking out of the window at a beautiful chestnut horse munching in the evening sun :)

Great stuff!

I was just like you, had ridden as a child for years but not for long as an really grown up adult (on and off really).
I Started doing some voluntary work at a sanctuary at weekends but it wasn't enough for me, so made the dreaded call to an advert for a share. Was totally honest (i think) about my experience and green/rusty riding skills and the owner was very obviously very trusting. I havent looked back since then - three years ago!
You will have so much fun and, probably like me, wonder why you didn't do it sooner!
xx

I'm so excited. Feel like I'm going to learn so much especially on the old boy. And their you hater in droolingly beautiful and possibly for sale!!! Dangerous!! Very dangerous!!
