If you have a young horse (wolf teeth both removed last year) who has been going fine in a HM mullen full cheek, but you notice after a few months that a chew mark is suddenly appearing. It's a very sharp mark so you change to a brand new HM. Chew marks still there in the same place after just one 1/2 hour ride

The chew marks are on one side only, always in the same place. Approx middle towards the edge of the arm where it meets the ring.

Do you think that the horse has just changed it's way of going and is starting to lean on one side an take it between it's teeth?
Or could it be a sharp edge that the bit is being drawn down onto thus causing the marks on the bit?

I understand that HM are not chew resistant, but this bit was fine for a good few months

I will be having teeth rasped as soon as I can fit horse in.

I would imagine the rasping will sort it. I know when mine (4yo) needs a check as the happy mouth gets a few dints. Not seen chew marks on the older horses' bits.
