Hi everyone,

Well I have a houseful of tasty treats to share with you tonight! But you're not having any of my wine ;) we've got yakatori chicken (:)) and chocolate fudge cake, but you'll have to be quick as the fudge cake won't last long!!!

Down to business with the two Ds!!! Life is good!!! It's been 2 years and 4 months since we bought Dolly, and 17 "first place" rosettes later and I'm so proud of them. We've not been "out" loads recently (due to weather and van issues) so they've been concentrating on their interdressage tests (and a few photo shows which have been fun!). The annual interdressage league ends today and they might have clinched 2nd place, out of over 100 entrants. I'll be so proud if they make it (and they'll have a £75 prize on it's way!!!) so keep everything crossed for them!

Dolly's been a bit under the weather recently. She seems to have developed an allergy, which has been a worry. She gets "lumps" under her tummy and up her neck and face. We got the vet out and she had bute and a small dose of steriods to get rid of it. We originally thought it might be the advent calendar which we bought her, but since we binned that she had another bout, so chances are it's hay. She's been better for the last week or so, hopefully it's gone now. She's always had a dodgy eye, which occasionally waters and swells up a little, so we're connecting it with that as perhaps that is allergy related too. I hope it resolves itself, as I've heard it's very expensive to get to the bottom of these things!! :(

Daughter has been schooling Dolly quite a lot to try to get her into a better outline. We're going to try a neue schule bit in the new year, we bought one but it was the wrong size :o Daughter seems to now be developing a "feel" which has helped a lot - I was told it would just "click" at some point and it seems to be doing.

Here's a recent photo:

she does look in a better shape to me.

Of course, lots of jumping has been going on, and until yesterday, lots of staying on board too which was good whilst it lasted! Here's a fall..... :D

those bloody piggies!!! Dolly's like "they're scary.....I'll THROW you at them" - it's NOT Angry Birds Dolly!!! hehehe :D

I spent 5 minutes chasing Dolly after she dumped Daughter! Bucking and farting around the arena, the little ******! She can still "take us to school"!!!

Here's them on good form....

And here's Dolly having a Christmas tantrum!

Lastly, a lucky photo I took....which is my favourite at the moment.

It never seems enough of an update, when I say "All is good" :D but really, it is. The cheeky (and FAT!) pony has turned out good, but I (modestly!) think that's a testament to daughter's riding skills! She's spent Xmas riding all the riding school ponies (most of her presents are wrapped up, still under the tree!) and it's been her best Xmas ever! She just LOVES riding ALL and every pony, she's not at all fussy. She loves them all. And I'm so happy and proud that she's trusted to do it.

I've got a cracking 2013 planned for them! ;):D I'm going to get them out XC and pony racing!!! :D

So HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone, from me, OH, Daughter and Dolly (oh and Midnight the rescue cat, who we recently entered in an online charity pet comp - thanks to Rhino on here - and who won reserve champ!!! not bad for a cardboard box kitty :D).... here's a photo of her too....

Lovely post! :D

That jumping pic is AWESOME...look at them fly.

Their journey has been smashing, so glad Dolly turned out to be so fab.

I'll have some fudge cake please... I've got my own wine.

Happy New Year :) x

Aw, Christmas pictures are so nice!

The horse I had on loan got an allergic reaction on her belly as well - we thought it might be nettles but I don't know if they're around much at this time of year.

Good luck for 2012!!! :)

Actually crying with laughter at "It's not Angry Birds" :D

They look so good together now- this summer is going to be SO awesome for them!

Thanks Mrs M! xxx

:D Thanks!! Dolly is a VERY good jumper, when she chooses to be!! xxx

lovely pony :)

my ginger horse would not even get that close to those fillers, would stand 6ft away and snort

:D made us laugh the snorting comment!!!! Dolly is a strange one! She'd already jumped it x3 times that day (and about a 100 times other days!) but she just said no, that time! We have it on video.....hehehehe :D

what a happy post. lovely

Thanks! Happy New Year!!! x x x

What a lovely update. You sound a lovely mum, what a lucky girl she is! Hope 2013 is filled with lots of fun for you all!

Awww thank you!! xxx

I hope so! I'm going to be posting shortly asking what the best route to success will be for them. I want them to really make the most of the next year and aim for a few qualifers to see how far they can get :D

lol re Angry Birds! That was OH's comment, I can't take the credit!

I follow their progress on fb anyway but I love your updates here :) PMSL at Angry Birds :D They've come so far, I hope they have another great year together :)

Thanks MGM!!! We're looking forward to 2013. The "am I too big" argument still looms a bit, but we're going on the theory that Dolly is happy enough to chuck daughter off and run off bucking, so she obviously doesn't feel too unhappy and squished at the moment! lol!!! ;)

ahem, what about your riding :p

only had one ride in the past month (due to weather and me being poorly) so not a lot to report - but I've been "promoted" onto a group lesson hopefully from next Saturday so might have more to report soon.....

I do love your updates....how are your lessons going?
Daughter is very lucky to have such proud, supportive parents :)

Thank you!!!

OH is awesome, today he took Daughter to the farm whilst I took my mum to physio. Helped her tack up and ride about 6 ponies in total before I got there!!! And that's whilst he is dropping with a cold. He's a good catch!!!

My lessons are going well, but I've missed this week due to weather (and a power cut) and the time before due to being poorly, so I'm about a month behind my schedule. BUT the riding school has said I can go on a steady group lesson, which will be great, as it's indoors (so no risk of weather cancellation) and also it's an hour rather than half an hour. I'm hoping to start that next Saturday.

My weight loss regime will start in a couple of weeks (once I've ate all the Christmas food!!!!) and I'm determined to be about 4 stone lighter by the end of 2013. That should help a bit, and I'm eyeing up all the smaller ponies that I want to ride as an incentive!!!

Thanks for all your support, as always! :D

gorgeous family, you must be so proud.

I am. Thank you!!! :D

That's a huuuuuge jump!!!!!!!!! The progress they have both made is just unbelievable :)

Hi Suzie!! They LOVE jumping big!! Looking forward to trying out their first "1 metre" course outing in the new year! Height has never been an issue for Dolly, as I've said before. It's the speed and the dirty stops (see piggy photo!). Actually usually the higher the jumps, the more she concentrates (both of them!) so they're going to give a few of the higher classes a shot. And the working hunter.

Daughter is desperate to "do" a puissance class  but we've not tried a wall yet......;):p:D

Thanks loads!! x x x

They are looking fantastic redmone and have progressed so much!!! And great that you're continuing the lessons - look forwards to more updates and pics xx

Great update :D I think 2013 will be an exciting one with Dolly :)

Did you find out the interdressage results? I need to know if it's safe to uncross my fingers yet!

Thanks Rhino!!! Entries are closed so it'll take a few days to finalize placing. Still keep everything crossed, its going to be so close as the girl in 3rd place has entered 4 tests obviously to try to grab the 2nd place spot!!! Why didn't I think of that??? ; ) xxx

Lovely update, they have come a long way in a fairly short time, well done all of you for sticking with it:)

On the allergy front, has she only had this since being clipped??

Have heard of some horses having reactions to the heat or oil used when clipping,or just a general skin sensitivity to being clipped maybe??

Or if she had it before then maybe because she was too hot and sweaty??

Sure you have already ruled out both but just a thought.

So pleased things are going well for D&D :) she has grown a lot since I last remember seeing your updates :o

Hi Devonlass! (Sorry can't quote, am on my new tablet!!)

Thanks re the two Ds!

Its the first time she's been clipped this year(with us) so that was our first thought BUT that was well over a month ago (could actually be more than 2) so I just cant see it being that . Although it is pretty much exactly where she's been clipped. Could it be the hair growing back that irritating her??? I'm keeping a close eye on her anyway, I hate anything allergy related, we especially in animals! Xxx

Thanks M & S!!! Yes she's grown these long legs from somewhere, still only weighs just over 4 stone though!!!

She's lucky as she's been riding everything from 11hh to 14hh over xmas!! But Dolly still keeps her the most on her toes!!!

Xxx

Happy new year to all of you. Love the piccies, they look great together. Ponys are strange the way they jump something loads of times and then suddenly find it really scary. Unfortunately my older daughters pony did this on the Saturday before Christmas and she fell off and broke her arm!! She was really looking forward to riding over the Christmas holidays. Hope dolly's allergy clears up. Look forward to all your 2013 updates.

i cant believe its over 2 years, lovely update, your daughter looks very happy!!!!!! shes got a long way to go before she outgrows dolly , theres nothing of her!!!!!well done to all of you for not giving up at the beginning...please keep the updates coming and good luck for your lesson..:D

It would seem to be quite a while to be still having a reaction, but as an allergy prone and sensitive skinned type myself have to say it's still possible IMO.Possibly less likely to be an allergy to being clipped itself and oil, heat etc as like you say prob too long a time but could still be an allergic reaction to being clipped out or more a sensitivity issue causing an allergic type reaction.

If a sensitivity then could be either to being clipped out and now less hairy and skin more exposed etc,or you could be right on the money with it being a reaction to the hair growing back in,especially when the skin get's a bit warm or sweaty.

You could try gentle sponging down with just clear water or a mild soap after working see if that helps,if not then might be a case of just waiting for the hair to grow back in and hoping she develops more of a tolerance to being clipped as time goes on.

Could be exactly as you thought of course and be an ingestion allergy, although if you haven't changed much in the way of feed recently that's less likely.
Just the timing seems coincidental with her being clipped for the first time and it being mainly in that area.

Sorry for waffling, been dealing with allergies and sensitive skin so long in myself i have become a bit of a nerd about it:o
