Happy New Year To You All.
I would like to wish friends (old and new) a very happy new year and all the best for 2011.
Above are a few of the rosettes that Tilly and Mez won last year and Mez is going to have to work extremely well this year as Tilly will not be ready to event so she will not be able to help her out with the rosette side of things
No pressure then!!!
Mez has her first BD competition on Sunday 9th Jan at Myerscough and then again Saturday 29th Jan. She has been schooling well and we have been jumping her also. Peter built us a combination of a bounce and then a stride to a spread the other day. We built it gradually as she has not done a lot of grid work but she got the hang of it very quickly and only knocked them down due to rider error!!!! We finished with the spread around three foot and she just popped over it and there was not a lot of room in the indoor for this so she did really well. I am hopefully going to Richard Barton with her on the 10th Jan for a bit of fun round the jumps at Osbaldeston. Fun for me not Richard as he has to chase us usually...I get my moneys worth when I take Mez!!
We are going to take her XC schooling and just see if she is any more confident this year. I am planning to hire Stafford BE course on the Monday after the event it at all possible so that we get to try out some of the fences we may compete over in the future. I will hopefully go to Somerford Park and Charity Farm first to break her in gently! The plan is if she enjoys it to maybe affiliate for the second half of the year or compete on a ticket. If not...a dressage year it will be!!
Tilly is now on 15 minutes walking around the arena a day, which increases to 20 mins on Tuesday. She is very lively and is ok if everything is quiet but one loud noise and she can not contain herself...bless her. I just want her to be sound again this year and will do everything I possibly can to help her. Joe is coming on Tuesday for another check up and also to do vaccinations for Millie and Tilly and teeth for all three girls.
This year I am planning on backing Maisey who will be three at the end of July. I will hopefully back her and do some basic schooling with her before giving her winter 2011 off. She will then come into work spring 2012. I would like to get both her and Kirkby used to the horsebox and take them on some short journeys if possible. I am going to start doing a little more handling with Kirkby as he is not as confident as Maisey so the more he sees the better. Obviously I will not be backing him until 2012 when he is three but I will start long reining and tacking up this year.
We are of course still looking for a suitable yard to move to and the hunt will continue in 2011.
