So a few months ago I posted about me having found my boys breeder and his slightly sad start to life. He was orphaned after his mum died shortly following birth. He had to be bottle fed every hour for the first 24 hours until his foster mum was found. They then had to transport him to his new mum. On advice from the vet, they put him in a sleeping bag to simulate birth, during the journey he got a little warm and so was unzipped, he then proceeded to leap around the car having a great time - clearly very cheeky from the start

Anyway here are a few pictures from his first few days....

Thank you, I always knew he was special but I think his story makes him that little bit extra special. The photo of him in the car made me well up a bit, I am so grateful to the people who nursed him through and looked after him as he is definitely my horse of a lifetime and can't imagine being without him. You would never know now he had a difficult start. Think I will have to keep these pictures handy when he's being a pain in the bum and I consider deserting him somewhere :D

What a nice story! I often see orphan foal plea's on Facebook, but I can never do anything about them :(

What is he wearing in the 4th picture?

Sorry a bit gory, it wasn't quite so obvious in the smaller pictures, but I believe it is the skin of the foster mums foal. It helps the pair to bond as the familiar scent of her foal will obviously then be on the foster foal.

I thought it would be, but was just clarifying. Very glad it worked out, you have a very handsome boy!

They made my morning too, was very excited when I got the email. To be honest I think given a chance he would still like to go in the back of the car if it meant he got a cuddle. If it weren't for my future husband Zak would probably be living in the garden :-)

Your story has made my day. Brought tears to my eyes. He's a lucky horse, and beautiful to boot. And what a star of a foster-mother too.

Thank you, I know he was so lucky. Very sad for the other people who sadly lost their foal, but they helped my beautiful boy live. I honestly really filled up when I saw the pictures. It makes me feel very lucky to have him and he may even get extra cuddles today. He is quite a character, he chases me around, when I run he trots, when I walk he walks, when I stop he stops. He's so playful

Gorgeous pics - he was certainly very playful in the field last night as he pretended to kill snakes!! the other horses were most bemused watching him striking at the ground, stomping down with both front feet and doing vertical rears to show off his masculine prowess :D

Lets just hope he doesn't re-enact this later. Wish I had been there for some pics. I think living out may have turned him a little nutty!! He was so funny when I put him in the field yesterday I couldn't get rid of him following me around

That's such a lovely story. A friend lost her new foal last weekend so its good to hear a happy story for both the foal and the bereaved mare. He is gorgeous!

I think I have just died from an overdose of cuteness.:D

Lovely pics, lovely story and what lovely people his original owners are (sending you all the pics).
Made my day.:)

She is lovely. Think she was please to hear from him (me) as he was obviously quite a special one after what they went through to keep him alive. I know when I saw the pictures my heart melted, she has said they have more of him which she is going to send so will have to keep you all updated. He is a tough little cookie although sometimes he would have you believe that plastic may kill him.:D

Well stop feeding him it.

(Sorry couldn't resist, I read it that way.):D

Aw brought a tear to my eye. When I was a teenager, a friends much loved pony lost her foal and we found her a foster foal. Having the skin of her own foal removed to put over the foster foal was one of the most traumatic parts of the whole process for my friend. Sadly her mare never accepted the foster foal but we believe he was successfully bottle reared to maturity. SO happy to hear that this does sometimes work out. Your boy is so beautiful. x

That's really sad. I can imagine how awful it must be for the owner so have to remove the skin like that. He was definitely very lucky!!:)
