A few weeks ago my horse knocked the inside of his cannon bone with his opposite foot and gave himself a nasty cut. I cleaned it all up and kept on top of it for a few days and the cut has healed lovely. What I am more worried about is the enormous lump that has been left behind. The initial swelling was just puffiness around the cut which was to be expected but now he has a lump that when you stand in front of him it looks like he has another fetlock on top of his fetlock! It isn't hot or painful and he hasn't been lame on it at all but this lump is rock hard and I worry that when I put his boots on that they will rub him.
Does anyone know if this is likely to go away on its own? I was cold hosing while the cut was healing but stopped when the cut looked better which was within a few days of it happening. There wasn't much swelling at the time so didn't think much more about it. It feels like bone, no vet involved yet but I have one coming out soon anyway so will get them to have a look.
Is this a normal reaction to a bump on the leg.. or could it be that the trauma ha caused a splint maybe?
Any advice welcome, thanks.
