Hard Feed

Can anybody help me ??? When should I start feeding my pony hard feed ? He goes out into his field during the day and comes in at night. A few weeks back I tried him on feed and he got really bad tempered and bucked whenever he could I stopped giving him the food and he went back to his normal very gentle ways. Any ideas what feed I could feed him on???

A good vit&min supplement and some unmollased chaff/speedibeet/fast fibre.

Does he actually need a hard feed?

Is there a specific reason you want him to have one?

If your pony is being naughty when being fed and is fine without then I would say he doesnt need a feed, unless you have a genuine reason for feeding one.

Would he not be hungry with not alot of grass in the winter??

always go for forage first over hard feed, hay (or soaked hay if laminitic or overweight) or haylage double netted in haynets. If pony then dropping weight ring one of the helplines like topspec or baileys for advice - generally you wont need any hard feed at all unless in hard work like competing/hunting and even then you probably will only need good quality hay.

Not if he has the forage he needs. If there isnt much grass then you will need to give him hay.

A hard feed will not fill him up.
