Hard ground (dare I say we need rain?)

I am seriously considering dumping some buckets of water on the harder bits of our woodland ‘school’ so we can canter a whole lap in there again. The bits that get some sun have dried out, whereas the rest is fine. Seems easier than school hire anyway!

It's been gloomy here so far today but no sign of rain yet. Unfortunately it's been windy for the last 3/4 days (and still is today) which has been drying out the ground even further. I had to re-seed part of my lawn at the end of April and I'm having to water it as the new shoots were dying, which seems ridiculous as I normally just let grass get on with it!

I just saw on the weather forecast we had the wettest April since the 70s in my area, followed by the driest May! There's just no happy medium any more is there.
I know it's mad I was away last week when I left hacking was under water some of it, went out yesterday and its all dried up and is now solid dust.
