Hard lump on leg

My 4 year old was messing about in the field the other night with his friends and I think he probably kicked himself on his hind leg . He now has a hard lump size of a 5p on his cannon bone . It's gone down slightly over the last few weeks . It's not painful when I press it and it's pretty solid . Any ideas what it could be ?

Is it actually on cannon bone? Sounds like it could be a splint

It's on the front bone of the hind leg ( if that makes sense ) Apparently it's just a knock that will take 6 months possibly to go down as it's a bony lump
