Hi, hoping someone can help me please.

Tonight I noticed some hard lumps on my horses chest and shoulder area. Along the line of his turnout rug.

First of all I thought of rain scald, but there are no scabs or 'heads' at all. Just really hard, almost feel like bone they are so hard, bumps. or swellings. but hard swellings.

Racking my brains trying to think what it could be. Don't think its fly bites. Am sure its not rain scald as no scabs.

He is very sore to touch.

Will get the vet in the morning if they haven't gone down, but thought i'd pick your brains before I go to bed.

thanks.

If it's along the line of the edge of the turnout rug then it's to do with the turnout rug! Depending on where you are in the country, if you've had the torrential rain we've had over the last week, then it's entirely possible your rug has become saturated and heavy and the edges have rubbed. I'd treat as rainscald and change rugs for something lighter and dry. I'm sure you do already but worth noting that you'll need at least 2 rugs until this clears up so that a dry rug goes on your horse every day. If she's happy to be stabled for longer, II'd be tempted to only turn her out for short intervals and then leave her rugless in the stable - it isn't cold now.
