Hard To Catch Pony - UPDATE

The hard to catch pony is now no longer a problem

he has started to come when I call him now

started off by just slowly walking up to him backwards ruslting a crisp packet and he was good with that .. then i cold catch him with the rustly packet and facing him, now I just walk up to him and can catch him straight away

have staretd to call him and when he comes over i give him treats, also I dont always go to catch him

sometimes I go to get the other horse I ride in, or I give him a treat or a stroke or even just brush him while hes happily grazing

I was glad of your request for suggestions, I tried them all after reading all the ideas,
The one that worked for me was setting up a section of electric fence, tempting her in with bucket, closing the corner off behind her and rope swiftly round neck, then headcollar on.
She had come to me via a dealer about 10 weeks ago, and to their credit -I did know there was a problem.
Have visited her old owners and found out she wasn't broken until almost 6 as no one could ever catch her- so as she's now 11 its a really long standing problem.
Because she is so headshy- until you have actually got hold of her-, we thought she had been mistreated, ear twitched or something, but that is definitely not the case- she's had a lovely life doing Le Trec in France!
Were also very glad to find out she wasn't a french rescue!!!!
However, as long as the headcollar stays on it's not too bad and the electric fence comes into play when needed.
It fact, just done it for the third time today.
Silly girl hasn't cottoned on yet- I hope she never does!!!!

I would have tried that idea but we dont have electric fencing :/ Although the suggestion I used has helped alot so the tape wasnt needed

Luckily Ted isnt the least bit headshy (can grab his ears when Im on him and pretend he's a motorbike )
