Hi
Can anyone help me. I have a thorobred who injured the bulb of his front heel in Feb. (wire accident)Was stitched and finally healed. I did put on Aloe Vera on scar. He's just partly opened it up and wondered if there is anything I can use to stop this happening again. This time not on wire. I used turnout socks but they rubbed it. He normally has over reach boots but thought he would be safe in his electric fenced paddock. Thanks

Put some Epsom salts in water and put it on the scar daily. It should harden up pretty quickly

Due to an accident I personally have a very large scar on my arm. I was advised to get vitamin E capsules, open them with a pin and rub that on. The oil is waterproofing and it makes the scar much more supple. It makes the scar more pliable and therefore stronger and less likely to breakdown under stress.

I don't know about epsom salts but years ago I was advised to use surgical spirit on a scar on my mare and it was too harsh. It turned the skin like parchment.

distilled witch hazel is the best thing I have found. I have a rescue horse who had very damaged withers when I got him, they are healed now, but the area is very weak and will probably always be so. I have tried lots of things on them but find the witch hazel the best as it has strengthened the skin, but not made it hard so it doesn't restrict his skins natural stretch and movement.
