Crosshill Pacers

Somebody commented the other day on a harness racing video I posted about how fast the horses were travelling (30+ mph) - imagine travelling at that speed on a pacer, and not sat behind it! It was announced this weekend that saddle races are being re-introduced under BHRC rules
Saddle races are still held under Wales&Borders rules, although not on a weekly basis and only ever one race on a card. I've been involved in racing for six years now and saddle races have never been a part of BHRC racing in my time (although they were in the past), but they are making a comeback and I am so excited!
You need to obtain a saddle licence and complete a 'test' race in front of the stewards before the licence will be granted, but it is open to anybody to apply.
As far as I'm aware the only meeting that has confirmed it will include a saddle race is Appleby Spring meeting (the week before Appleby Fair), however my local circuit has expressed interest if enough people obtain licences. I have a friend who got into harness racing this way (with Wales&Borders), so perhaps if you're looking for a new thrill you might like to give it a go?!
