Right-ive narrowed down my choice to two harnesses, as you know im breaking my pony to drive (in process-got far as pulling tyre) and buying a trap blah blah blah

anyway.....I am under a strict budget BUT I want my pony to be comfortable as I plan to go for long drives once he is accustomed to it all. Now-the choice is between this one..which is sadly my budget

What do you honestly think-it is worth paying more for better quality and safety. Is the zilco really worth blowing the bank for

Take my word for it... and feel free to curse me later if you think I am wrong... but... the Tedex is worth every penny.

Cheap synthetic harnesses can be a bit mean and unpadded compared to the Tedex. Your pony will be much more comfortable with the Tedex. However, you could pad it out with a pollypad roller pad under the saddle and collar.

I break to drive as a full time job and I swear by Tedex. Wouldn't let anything less within a mile of one of my horses!

You will also be able to get an underhalter from them ( once you have an underhalter you will wonder how you ever lived without one!)
 
Sorry, I forgot to say... if you buy Tedex via Bennington, Hartland, Bellcrown etc you can ask to be sent a size guide and pick and mix the sizes of the different pieces of harness to suit your horse. Few horses fit all cob/full/ pony harness. For example I have a horse at the moment who needs a cob bridle, full size breeching and saddle. With unbranded harness, what you get is what you get.


Also, you might concider buying some quick release snap shackles for your traces. This means you can get your pony out of shafts quickly in an emergencey. You won't have to cut the harness.

Try googling Carriage link, sorry I don't know the web site address. They usually have loads advertised second hand and some of it will be good as new. People try driving and they or the pony don't take to it, or some go on to teams, pairs horses etc... Well worth a look if you're on a budget.

hmmm. I think I might have to go with the tedex. Ive had a quick look at the size quides. It says pony size fits up to 13hh and cob size up to 14.2hh. my pony is 13.2hh and quite chunky with cob sized bridles, so might go for the cob sized harness as im sure I could adjust it where it needs to be-I just think id have a nightmare measuring it all seperately!! plus I think pony sized saddle wouldnt go round his belly!!!!!!!!!!
 
Ive just had a look at the quick release shackles. Do I just need one pair. As there are 4 buckles in total that need to be undone to remove the horse from the cart. Or does the traces just need the quick release clips?? They are quite expensive too-but worth it!
