How often would you expect a YO to harrow the arena?

Ours used to be done almost daily. It’s been thawed from frost for a while now and it looks like a beach after the tide has gone out and the horses from the Lloyds advert have trampled it.

Depends on how much use it gets but if it’s used several times per day then weekly would be good. I’m too lazy to do mine that much but I should (it’s probably used twice per day). Could you offer to do it? It’s a tough time of year with the weather and short days, maybe it would be a nice helpful gesture.

I’d say it’s used upwards of 10 times per day, more or less. I would offer but I don’t believe they’re open to allowing liveries do it or use their farm machinery - likely conscious of insurance/claims. Not even the yard staff use it, only the YO family.

Have you mentioned to the YO that it could possibly do with a harrow or just posted on here? One might get it done the other will not!

I was simply querying how often so I could judge whether I should expect it to be harrowed at this point. No point messaging YO if it would be unreasonable based on other people’s knowledge.

Well frequency would depend on the type of surface, the weather and the amount of use. If it looks bad and rides badly then I would chat (nicely as opposed to confrontationally) to the owners and see what they say.
