Morning all, I'd like to pick your knowledgeable brains please.

I'm thinking of getting one of these girths but can't tell from photos on t'internet how shaped it is. I have a wide, flat pony with a forward girth groove but not much room behind his elbows. I normally use Stubben trevira girth which is great but which rubs him at coat change time. My other thought was an Atherstone girth with elastic both ends.

Could anyone advise about the HD girth or recommend a good make of Atherstone.

Many thanks in advance ?

They are true banana shape. A strong curve and the buckles point forwards, not out sideways.

How long a girth does your pony need? I have a 32 inch I don't need any more.

The SHORT ones are banana shaped as ycmb states. The LONG ones however are not very curved at all.

I needed banana shaped and sold mine to get a curvier girth.

Wintec CAIR do a waffle curved girth. Not many in stock but I’ve just bought 2.

Thanks Fieldlife. So glad I asked this question as I think it may have save me a lot of money!

Word of caution here; they are lovely girths but for some reason my mare strongly objected to hers so it's worth trying second hand or trial first. My saddle fitter was certain the girth would suit but clearly my mare disagreed! I have no idea why really unless the waffle was trapping hair or something.

The long ones are W shaped (buckles in a straight line, not angled) and fairly wide in the middle, brilliant girths, but won't suit the very narrowest girth grooves.

Thank you sbloom, that's helpful. The pony hasn't got a very wide girth groove, despite being a wide pony! I'm leaning towards an Atherstone girth. I just need to find a make which is nice and wide in the middle. Any thoughts?
