Harry Hall Hat shocker!

just read on the internet. the hat is safety standard EN:1384
and if you put it in google it comes up with

it says it is all in competitions. is is just pony club and rc then?

Good thing the shop assistant DID mention it. I think the safety standards for hats are generally quite confusing (no such thing out here; people gaze blankly at me when I try to explain to them!) I believe vented hats generally conform to the lower standard, don't they?
On a side note, are hats regularly checked at shows? Mine's never been checked.

if you hat has bs en 1384 1997 in it you can use it for all activeys, including pc and rc. however with xc it mustn't have a fixed peck.

It is because it is only tested to European standards not British standards.... used to work for them ages ago!

She did say that mostly its PC and BE that pull you up for it, but the way I look at it I'd rather not take the chance with not being able to ride - so CO it was in the end!
