It’s only accidental injury. I’m going to swap to it on my next renewal as everything is excluded on my horse!
It won’t cover illness/lameness etc

I'm using their accidental injury policy and for that to cover there has to be a visible wound of some sort. They'd paid out quickly though, they did query the x-ray as that was done 3 weeks after the initial incident but once I explained the situation they paid out within a couple of days.

I've got it, they paid out no quibbles when my mare injured her hock and needed to stay at the vets for xrays and IV antibiotics.

I use world horse welfares instead because they will cover any number of horses and have a lower excess. They will also cover other things such as transport and I think livery that HH don't.

WHW paid out quickly when I claimed.

Oh interesting, thanks for that. I’ll look at that one first!

I didn't even know they did that. Don't suppose you have any links at hand ?

I'm very interested by it, so would be keen to hear people's views. I'm agonising over potentially cancelling my insurance. I've been with NFU for 19 years, but my insurance this year is £160 per month. This is for my 22 year old and 10 year old. I umm and ahh constantly over whether or not it's worth it.

They paid out for me recently.

My cob came in with a cut to his hock, that ended up turning out to be fractured. The bill was about £2k 9 weeks later. They paid out the full £1500 he was covered for no issues. They paid the vets directly.

I’d happily recommend them

I had been with NFU for 9 years, one was excluded for everything but still costing me £65 a month so between the two £130. I changed to HH two months ago after agonising like you and so far so good. It works out at £66 a quarter which is far more realistic. I have an emergency fund if needed but if it was that catastrophic I would PTS.

I have just changed to WHW as my KBIS insurance renewal was excluding all the potential areas of concern with my pony. The KBIS premium was reasonable and they paid the vets easily and promptly but the exclusions for muscle myopathy (no confirmed diagnosis) and potential problems in two legs (no confirmed lameness and movement improving all the time with vitamin E, regular physio and fittening work) meant I felt I was better off hanging onto my savings.
