After my positive post last night, I feel I have to tell you all about today.

Basically Tuesday is my day off,and my YM sorts the horses. Farrier was booked for trims today,so I asked Harry's owner to come out and lend a hand.

She arrived and basically took litle notice of him. My YM said that he could do with a bit of a groom if she likes(he lives out) and she spent all of 1 minute in the stable with him.

Apparently she went into tack room and made all the right noises about how much she loves him and is looking forward to him coming home at the end of February. Then sahe said she had to go (she'd only been there half hour) and left without even saying good bye to him.

My YM was quite upset and phoned me. TBH she didn't do anything wrong with him, just SHOWED little compassion, although she did make the right noises. She has only seen him once before since he's been at my yard and that was the beginning of December,he was lame then.

I am now finding myself worrying about him going back to her. My friend owns the yard where she keeps him (and another horse she's bought since Harry has been at mine). She says that she makes excuses frequently why she can't do the horse and when she does turn up,its only 10 minutes and my friend ends up going up afterwards to do things properly.

I cannot describe to you how much time, effort, patience, tears and money has gone into this horse for the last 2 months. He is a TB with multiple issues, but is a complete sweetheart and never kicks up,no matter how much pain he has been in.

AND to top it all,he was turned out after lunch and when he trotted off it looked like he was lame in trot again! Fine in walk!

I'm upset today.....................

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this. Remind me, was Harry was the horse you thought might have to be put to sleep a few months ago? How did you end up with him in the first place?

My friend (the other YO),felt so sorry for him limping round her field, not really being looked after properly, she rang me! Sucker for a soft touch!!

I agreed to have him for 3 months to see whether I could get him sound.

She is not a bad person, just very novicy and pretty clueless. I'm worried and I don't know what to do!

Dear God, his owner should be on her knees in gratitude for everything you have done to help this poor animal! Could you not just get her to turn him over to you? It sounds like she's moved on if she has already bought another animal - unless she's one of these lucky people that can keep more than one animal on livery?
