TBH I don't know about the food situation and you didn't say when you were going but I'd be more worried about the heat. In saying that I haven't been but I've a few friends who have and said the heat was unbearable and trying to keep hydrated was really hard. Even if there was a breeze they've all said it was like standing in front of a huge hairdryer.

I'd love to go and its a lovely present :) But maybe check with the travel agencies and see if they can give you any advice. Also have a word with your doc re hydration fluids for babies in case your son does pick up something and has the scoots. That with the heat would defo be bad.

Good luck and sorry I can't be of any help.

I don't know if it counts, but as a baby I went to Kuwait and UAE often (and I'm still alive ;) ). For a young child, only go when it is very cool, as the heat is unbearable. I have friends and family in Egypt who go on holiday in the summer, because it is unbearable for them. Make sure the hotel has air conditioning, which should come as standard.

Food-wise there shouldn't be a problem, just don't buy from food stalls which have been standing out, and go to the more tourist-friendly restaurants. Don't drink the water, use bottled water.

Minxie has some good advice - the travel agents will be able to give you more info.

And have fun! Egypt is lovely.

Your hotel food will be fine - they cater for tourists all year round and it is as good as the food you will get here. The Egyptians loves children/babies and the hotels I have stayed in usually have seperate section on the buffet for babies/children. If in doubt avoid any kind of meat - there is always plenty of bread/fruit/yoghurts etc they can have. FWIW if you need the doctors the doctors they have are excellent and the pharmacists are even more helpfully - they can sell you tablets etc without needing a prescription.

Go and enjoy yourselves - the hotels have kids clubs and all sorts of things for children so you and your baby probably won't be the only ones and you will be well catered for.

As Minxie said hydration is the most improtant thing for all of you - just get the big bottles of water wherever you go and make sure everyone keeps drinking it all day and night.

I went to Egypt in Feb this year. And myself and OH took all the tablets in the world in case of bad food, BUT the food was lovely, and safe and neither of us had a hint of bad stomach. All you need to do is make sure you don't drink the water from the taps over there. Take a few boxes of baby food in your suitcase but resorts are pretty good at catering for all.

Oh, and it was amazing, enjoy it!

It is VERY hot all year round (which i love hehe) But we were both sick for a good few days while we were there. There were few kids when i went youngest was about 18months and he seemed fine they just kept him covered quite a bit with hats etc and he was blonde and very fair skinned. Where about are you going? Time of year etc. Must say im very jealous :D

were going on the 3rd may for 2weeks to shamalshaik, staying at the savita we will deffo take plenty of bottled water i knew it was hot but never realised it was going to be that styfoling hot...... i will just stay indoors if it is unbearable iv bought a sun suit for him and a float vest thing lots of sun cream and a sun hat is there anything else....
