My mare had a massive splint a few months ago, it took a while for it to heal and she was slightly lame for a few weeks, it settled down and all is ok, however yesterday I noticed that another smaller splint has occurred directly above the older one, has anybody else had this experience?

It's a cold splint and she's not lame but it seems bizarre that it is directly above the old one to the point it appears to be merging!

Any ideas I have never heard of a horse having two splints on the same leg ...

yep, me but neither have been big. the farrier mentioned something about chain splits, but I havent heard of them, i think its because my horse doesn't have the best front leg conformation. I try to keep his feet dealt with very regularly to help.

Yes my mare has two splints on the same leg. One quite big, the other below not quiet so big. Her conformation isn't quite straight in front. I should probably touch wood and all that but never been lame either. Hopefully your horse will be ok too:)

yep one of mine threw one on frozen turnout, following year he did the same directly underneath it. cosmetically it actually looked better with the two together and never bothered him :D

I know a pony who actually was in pretty light work, mostly in the school... Turned up he was. About 6 or 7 yrs, no sign of splints from the past, suddenly splints on both fronts and one hind leg with one of the fronts sporting two splints... He healed and to my knowledge hasn't had any more, but it was wierd, the work wasn't extreme, he has certainly had a far heavier workload since with no negative effects but for some reason all of them came at once... Very odd.
