I have a 20 year old thoroughbred mare she literally has half a foot her inside heel bulb is completely gone and there i obvious damage to the inside wall of the hoof and grow strange as a result. Though nobody is sure how she did this i know she did it and her history is a mystery prior to her being 5 im told the injury was done prior to this and i believe her to have raced. Over the last 15 years it doesnt appear to have bothered her and certainly not i the 3 years ive had her has it been a issue.
In may last year she over a period of 6 weeks went gradually lame and was noticeably worse after being shod (always fine on soft ground)so vet nerve block showed the problem to be her foot region and she was put on 2 weeks box rest she did 10 eventful days
appeared to be significantly improved but after booting a wall we all decided she would be best out and believed the problem to be something of nothing. After a some time out she began to deteriorate and cause more concern so we decided to xray but after with no clues other than bad bruising from them she was referred for further nerve blocks and xrays at her worst she was 8/10 at trot but we never really got a full diagnosis potential soft tissue bit of laminitis severe bruising pedal ostitis
she was box rested 3 months and gradually came right and in last two months has been pretty much back to normal she doesnt do loads anyway little bit in school (walk trot canter,intro test she seems better than before) lots of long walking hacks and about 6 weeks ago she had a little gallop shes got natural balance shoes on in front.
but shes started to go slightly lame again but prior to noticing she had 3 days in her stable and walking so im just confused ?????? shes resting and she already has improved but whats she doing
