As above really.. Just looked at the website and personally wouldn't take anything being advertised there, even if it were free. Yet some folks seem to think their sweet itch, crib-biting, copd, laminitics are worth ££££'s!!

Am not saying you couldn't find a decent horse on there but bloody hell - they're like walking vets bills..

Yes, I know a lady who got a very nice horse from there. He was only a project in that he had been backed, but his owner didn't have time to bring him on due to a change of job. It was an honest advert, warts and all, and he's just as described.
A horse from my yard has just gone on loan VTB to a girl who found him on Project Horses. His problem is that he had got a bit of a bucking habit, and his owner isn't confident or experienced enough to get past it. So far it's all looking promising at his new home.
I don't understand why people pick on the Project Horses site, they do a good job. They don't have control over what people decide to sell their horse for, but that is a matter for the owner and prospective buyer to deal with. I think the site itself give a good service to people who want to find new homes for horses that have some "issues".

I've just been and had a look, and I could find something there.

Some unrealistic adverts, but watch the right-hand side of this screen, they happen everywhere. If I liked the look of the horse I'd negotiate, especially with winter coming on.

My friend has had two off project horses. This first she got for £500 which included all the wardrobe so was good value, Her only problems with the horse turned out to be hormonal so once on regumate most of the problems dissappeared so she has turned into a great horse. The other one just had problems with kids and in the end she got him for free as he was a pony and she is a light weight adult so has no problems. Thinks in the past he was over ridden and over jumped by kids so started to kick and bite them to tell them how he felt!

I think some of them are over priced for being projects but there is a lot of bargining to be done in winter.

I think some horses on there don't always deserve to be on there. I find some stories quite sad, a lot of those people clearly bought unsuitable horses. I notice there a lot of Welsh Cobs on there as well which is such a shame, people really need to research what these breeds can be like before buying them!!

Remember, an "issue" to you may not be any issue to someone else! For example, I like the sound of the 16.3hh Welsh Cob and although fizzy, his issue is that he is napping out hacking. I dont hack so I wouldn't care

However, I do think most are definately overpriced considering some of their problems. For example, I wouldn't pay £1500 for a horse who runs backwards into traffic and is hard to stop in canter!

My horse was on PHs, thats because his owner was looking for a very specific buyer for him, sadly too many people think PH is a good place to buy bargain bin horses, its not.

I have a horse that was advertised on Project Horses. I quite like the site. People seem to feel able to tell all about the horses - warts an all. Shame people aren't so honest on other sites.
There are over priced horses on all sites and if people were more honest on them it would save alot of timewasting IMO.

I'm not knocking the actual site, its just some people advertising horses with quite major 'issues', or illnesses that I find a bit disturbing - I know they are telling it like it is but why would anyone want to pay to take on some of these horses? Remember, this is MY personal opinion & having had a horse with 'issues' - I couldn't have lived with my conscience had I sold him on via PH or anywhere else!

Note* I have said 'some' not 'all'.

On my second! Although, this one was also advertised "standardly" and looks like she might be staying for good, so hopefully I won't be buying any more from there or anywhere else.

Someone I know bought a horse off of Project Horses who is superb at dressage and who definitely has the ability to go just about all the way. What's good about Project Horses is people who advertise are at least completely honest whether people agree with prices being asked for or not. Whereas some people advertise them as uncomplicated schoolmasters suitable for novices...

I think Project Horses has a very important place to play in the market.

I agree, I have a welsh cob on their but purely because I haven't the one to one time she needs, she will be fab I'm sure and if I don't find the right person she will have winter off and I'll start with her in the spring when I have more time I wouldn't advertise hher on a "normal" site as she isn't ready for that yet.

I think it definately has it's place

If the horses are really physically too far gone to be sold, well, they won't sell with they? At least on PH the advertisers seem to put all the info in the adverts, they aren't trying to sell them without declaring the problems.
Things like sweetitch and stable "vices" aren't a problem for many people. Even COPD can be managed, particularly if the horse lives out. As I said before, you negotiate.
I do think it's a great site Varkie, long may it continue.

I've advertised my horse for loan in the past on Project Horses, he wasn't straight forward and I wanted to advertise him somewhere where I could be completely honest and on a website that maybe attracts a different kind of clientele than the mainstream sites.
