Yes. Best holiday I have ever had. The people that own it are lovely and do eveything in their power to make your stay the best it can be. Would 100% recommend to anyone!!!
Great hacking - the forest tracks are lovely. Little Lodge Farm is a good place to stay - we've been there on numerous occasions, horses have small electric fenced paddocks and you can sleep in your own box or tent, and they even have small chalets if you want luxury!
People are very friendly at the farm, and other riders/walkers/mountain bikers that you meet in the forest are also friendly.
Re rainy conditions, we've ridden there at different times of year in all sorts of weather, and I don't remember the tracks ever being particularly muddy.
My knowledge of it is from a few years ago so things may have changed, but they used to get a lot of sand colics due to soil type and high stocking density on the paddocks. It wouldn't put me off holidaying there provided if you are turning them out you are allowed to put ((forage)) out so they aren't eating closely grazed grass.
The forest tracks are definately all-weather and so, so many miles of off road hacks. Have fun!
Hi Jenneywren - re campers - they get people camping and caravanning also, as it's right in the forest. They've got some large fields as they get occasional groups of people (clubs etc) that book the field for maybe a weekend or a week, and then all the horseboxes and trailers drive into the field, and the horses are penned in small electric pens within the same field (we've done that ourselves, everyone brings their own electric fencing etc).
Alternatively if there are smaller groups or individuals, their horses are penned in small electric fenced paddocks which the farm provides and you poo pick and put hay etc in there for them.
We've often been up there and seen non horsey campers and caravanners there.
One thing I would mention - they can get a lot of midges in the summer, especially if you are sited near the river, so be prepared with repellant!
Bring LOTS of coins for your shower as it often runs out mid shower!!
Bring lots of clothing as well as no where to dry your soaking wet clothes! So bring loads of black plastic bin bags and then deal with the crud when you return home. Same for the horses, good summer turn outs as when it rains it pours and no cover
Personally I would be in the lodges!!!! I need my creature comforts! Hot tubs etc after a whole day and night out in the forest!!! Nice warm beds! Hot showers and heating!!!!
Its lovely lovely lovely, would HIGHLY Recommend we just had a long weekend there we go every year, this year the weather was not kind (it snowed) but still had a nice time , hope to go back again later in ther year so we can do Holkham beach and some jumping. Miles and miles of Forest to ride in Hannah and Jeff who run it are so nice friendly and welcoming.
Yeah You can buy hay there we did its was £6 a bale nice hay was eaiser than taking bales ourselves. We always go for a long weekend , you will have such a great time .
I live in Brandon so I can vouch for the riding as we ride in the forrest every other day The area is lovely, loads of riding, beautiful sandy tracks for cantering! The owners are really friendly, lots of space with good facilities. I used to help a lady who had her horse stabled there a couple of years ago and the other liveries couldnt be more helpful. Have a lovely time
