Iused to share a lorry with another lady on my yard who gave up a few years ago. I couldn't afford to buy her out so we had to sell the lorry. I was lucky enough to get lifts of some friends but now really need to look at getting my own transport again.
Has anyone bought a horsebox on finance?
Was it new or second hand?
Who with?
How much were the repayments?

Sorry this is a dull post but I want to know if I can realistically afford it before jumping in! xx

i looked into it but i have my car on finance so couldnt do it. i looked at alexander horseboxes and it was about £200 a month. but that was the lowest repayment. it depends how long a period you want to pay it off over.

I paid for half of mine with one of the credit cards (virgin at the time) that transfers cash into your account like a loan, then you pay back the card in the usual way, they call them money transfer cards. Tesco's are good for loans too I paid for my horse with one of those! The finance on lorries is usually a very high rate and you'd be far better with a lower interest loan.

Go on Money Saving Expert there are loads of loan and card tips etc....

I am buying a trailer with a credit card, M&S have 0% for 15months on all purchases, so we are buying one then paying it off over 15months.

These are great ideas so I'm off to google credit cards and money saving supermarket.
Then all I need is a horsebox!!xx

Any recommendations? I only have 1 16.1hh ISH so was after a 3.5 tonne lorry. What types have you all found to be most reliable?xx

Ahhh. This is interesting.

Finance companies need to be competitive with banks tec or nobody woud ever loan with them, really. Your bank knows your finances better than anyone else in all fairness.

I've been toying with financing a lorry too - Alexanders do seem steep on prices for their boxes but then again I have been old they are really nice wheels. I too would only need a 3.5tonne for two horses. A TB & a cob so balance each out weightwise! :D

Let me know how you get on and if you take the plunge! :)

No but bought cars and vans over the years and to be honest it costs alot and can realy get you into trouble if things go wrong like loss of work or health issues or other change of circumstanses.. so think long and hard before comitting, you will have less stress and be a lot better off if you can scrape and save for a cheep and cheerfull somthing , if I had my time again I would never have borrowed money for things I could mannage without !!!
moving on now slowly paying off debts and driving an old nail and a self build horsebox(paid for)
then hopeing to build up some savings......
