Hi all,

I'm looking for a new dressage saddle and the Bates Isabell is taking my fancy.

However the cheapest I can find it over here is just over £1650. I found an ebay seller based in the USA who are selling them for just over £1100 so that's quite a big difference and any saving helps :)

Just wondered if anyone has ever done bought saddles or tack from abroad before and what your experiences were? I'm always a little wary about buying anything on the internet but I would be buying a brand new one and have the added safety of paying with my credit card through PayPal.

Not tack but I have purchased various items from the states before, you have to factor in postage costs which can be quite high and you may have to pay tax on collection of your item, may not work out very much cheaper in the end and it's a bigger risk

I'm pretty sure your postage will kill!!!....although you are saving £550 :/
I'd check postage cost before buying to be on the safe side!

Postage is quite reasonable - £77 so will still be much cheaper - even if it gets stopped and I am charged tax I think it'll work out a bit cheaper although fingers crossed they don't pick up on it! :)

I bought a western saddle from the USA a few years ago, no problems though I did have to pay a fair amount of import duty... and Ive bought/sold saddles to to the UK a few times too, though Im only in Spain so its quite easy.

I have had used Ansur saddles sent to and from USA for refurb, can take some time to clear customs, and can be liable for tax if new, told to always mark the box refurbed saddles, never had a problem. Advise you get the parcel trackable .
