Has anyone bought/sold a second hand wooden stable?

I’m wondering about selling my most recent stable block. I don’t want liveries, don’t need it, and never got planning permission for it. It’s only three years old, been creosoted a year ago, in perfect condition. Seems a shame for it to just sit there. Just wondering if anyone has bought/sold a stable “buyer to dismantle and collect”?

I bought a stable +tack room from a friend of a friend. Her husband dismantled it, and gave us a hand loading. We put it together this end in an all-hands 'barn raising' type event. Hard work but rewarding if you are blessed with capable friends.

Yep, one of my friends had 2 spare stables and another needed some. I put them in touch, buyer dismantled and removed them. They were old stables and it was 10+ years ago, but several hundred pounds passed hands. I would think 50% would be a good start point.

I haven't, but when we were looking to a few years ago my step dad (who was going to be putting them up) was only really keen to view ones that were still in place and we would have dismantled/loaded ourselves so we could see exactly what condition it was in. I feel I'd be more inclined to pay a higher price if I could see it all set up. He ended up just building me one instead as we lived quite rural at the time and nothing came up within a reasonable distance.

I bought a triple block last year (2 stables with a field shelter in the middle), for £400. Already dismantled, me and DH picked it up on a flat bed trailer and put it up between the two of us over a weekend. Followed by a double field shelter for £500, again we dismantled this between us and me and my friend went and picked it up on the trailer. Nothing wrong with either of them!

Not saying yours should be that cheap at all, but that people do indeed but then used and dismantle/put them up themselves!

Recently sold a double field shelter, cost me £1800 in 2020 got £1000 for it, even though some roof panels were damaged. Buyer dismantled & transported.
It sold within minutes of advertising so may have sold it too cheap🤷‍♀️

We sold a single stable to a local farmer to use as a shelter for his sheep.

We'd already dismantled it as I wanted the hardstanding underneath to use as a tying up area, but I know he'd have happily done it himself.

I bought an almost new field shelter, helped dismantle move and redirect for approx third of the price of a new one.
Luckily had help and access to a flat bed lorry

Yes, years ago. Actually saw it for a friend who then changed his mind. It was at a garden centre, never been used for horses, had no central partitions, 3 boxes and a tack room. They told us the measurements (36 x 12) we ummed and aahed then they rang us again and dropped the price, offered to dismantle and deliver it as they needed the room. It came the next day. Bless them. They had lettered, numbered and arrowed each piece so even a child could have put them up so if you are dismantling one then believe me, it's well worth doing and worth charging a little more for, the new owner would thank you. What they didn't tell us was their measurements were wrong and in fact we had 3 12 x 12 boxes and a 6ft tack room too so we had to scrat about making an extra piece of concrete while we were putting them up! They are still in use some 30 years later and will last a bit longer too.
We also bought a 2nd hand conservatory; that too had been already dismantled.
A heads up. As a buyer, we were put off having to dismantle ourselves because you might not have the manpower, time or tools to do it and you don't know how well/badly it was put up so you don't have a clue how much time you'll need to do it especially if it's out of your own area. If it's already been done then all you have to do is load it up; that to me is worth two hundred pounds at least.

Thought of this thread when I saw this on Cheshire Horse FB page atm.

Stable block of four 12x12 stables. £1500 to anyone who can collect and take away after 17 Sept. Some damage to end stable. Could make 3 good quality blocks or repair. Fixtures and fittings not included. Will be dismantled unless you can come and help on 17th!

Yes I bought one back in the 90's, a single stable still with me, the other two I bought and erected as shelters, poor condition and they since been scrapped but they served about 10 years tho.

I’ll have to have a look, I’m not on that page, but not far from there either.

This is mine, it’s a 12x12 stable and a 6x12 feed room. It was about £3500 four years ago. The company don’t seem to make it anymore, but a single stable on their webpage is over £3000. Mine only had a horse in it for six months, then had rabbits, so is still immaculate. It’s due another creosote, but I won’t do it if selling as it stays wet for weeks.
