I had always believed that you would know the horse as soon as you saw or rode him. I did with both my other two.
micah was completely different.
I went horse hunting after recovering from a freak fall where I broke my ankle really badly. However I didn't have enough cash for a quality been there done that one, and I knew I wanted a quality horse and would eventually be bored with a push button pony anyway
When I went to try him he looked nothing in the stable but looked a lot different tacked up. He was very green and bouncy, launched into canter, threw his head about a fair bit. My friend rode him first and couldn't keep him straight, he was all over the place. I rode him he had a huge trot that I was not used to and was so green I said thanks but not what I am looking for
On the way home my friend said ok so he is baby but what did he do wrong??
I thought about it and couldn't think of a thing. So went back the next day and rode him outdoors he was just the same. So I said I would have him
Took very experienced friend with me to fetch him, she took one look at him and said I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole
he had a lump above his fetlock (which I knew) and a lump under his saddle.
He didn't look much at all was slightly under weight no muscle/topline and he was scruffy and in messy stable. Once she saw him trot up she was liking him better, but still wasn't convinced. I bought him anyway
What a horse I would have missed out on too!! He is perfect and will soon be what everyone wants
15.3h 7yr WB lovely paces, forward but very safe, not at all spooky. lovely to be around, great in traffic, adores being clipped. loading not always perfect but not done it much. Never stops when jumping (still learning) though)
Same experience friend hadn't seen him for a while came over last night at the SJ and said 'I bet your really proud of him! he is amazing
