Poor stewarding with regard to 'cycle time trails' being held on public highway????

Was out hacking on road yesterday and had very nasty and rude experience where i was told to look out for 'cyclist racing' and when i point out that they should look out for horses!! bloke ingored me. Too which two cyclist came around corner at speed with solid back wheels (soo making woooo wooooo noise), which made my horses spin bolt on road!!!! - (pl note this happen on country lane aswell)

Did go back to steward and ask why he didn't warning racer some how that there were horses infront on public highway, and quote him' i tried but they wouldn't hear me through their helmets'!! WTF-OMG what's the point of having a steward on road if racer can hear him, or give them instructions!!!
It then did get a bit heat

and i was told i shouldn't ride on roads at that point i did point out that his atttiude was typical of irogant(sp) cyclist and of course he pointed out that i gave horses rides a bad name - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - copy cat!

Does anybody out there expereince or tips when i go see bike oraganiser tomorrow to improve situation???

Wellt he cyclist had ever right to be there and the marshalls/stewards usually are there for other people as the cyclists know what their doing as such.

um perhaps best solutin is for them to let local yards know when and where they'll be time trialing so you can avoid them?

Having done both not sure how you would get the two to mix well, unless you could somehow recruit some cyclists to desensitise your horses?

(Mac now thinks quad bikes are polo dispensers from this )

i don't have problem with folk racing, it the total lack of correct stewarding i have problem with.........
if steward had said do you mind waiting a mo for these cyclist to go through, no problem
It was his total lack of understand that horses can be frighten and not doing his job of keep cyclist safe, as my little one went out with both back barrels and in spin so very easly could have cause accident due to steward lack of for sight!!! that got me most
My horses are well used to noise they living on working farm but yesterday it was blow gale and peee down and the wheel noise was just too much for them as it was for all the horse on yard

But Marshalls don't usually get to have radio's so generally don't know if a cyclist is coming until they're in eye shot which would be no use either?

Tricky one.

well IOM that's cr*p, what happens if they have to stop race!!!
There years behind us in equine world!!! and they operate in a much more dangerous environment! Do you know how much it normal costs for entry fee for this type of race??

Depends if it was a race or a time trial.

They have flags to wave just like many hunter trials still do. Although they may have radios and that would be a good point to discuss with them.

Price wise time trails were always included in the club membership and races were about a £5 but that was low key and a good 15 years ago (my god am I that old)

any info very welcomed...
i know they have to do a risk assement -H&S cr*p and i assume that there is some public ligablity insurance attached with entry fee??. But also spoke to police last nite and they have to abde with all highway code rules, but the race is not it's not policed by police or checked over by police. They just have to inform them of dates and route and then it's policed by there own stewards

as you can tell he really peeed... me off big stlyey

I am a horse rider and a cyclist.

When I'm on my bike going to and from school I regulary see horses and slow down for them and the people I know always speak/thank me but there are some who are miserable and don't even smile and aknowledge me for slowing down.
This makes me angry and I can understand why some car drivers don't slow down.

If I was riding my horse and came across a steward who tells me there are time trials on I think I would find an alternative route- rather than put myself in a dangerous position. Usually they put signs up dictating distance start and finish etc a few days before a race that gives me a good indication whether or not to ride in that area.
Happened to us a few weeks back but with runners - they all had their heads down and were focused on running didn't notice anything around them and were running in groups of about 30 in five minute intervals- that was very exciting for the baby horse!

if i knew it was happening i wouldn't entertained idea of going for hack - BUT had no knowledge of it happening as i when started out on hack signs where being put UP (9.30 sun am)and as come towards home the race had started!!
As stated if steward had asked us to stop for mo we wouldn't have had issue at ALL. As race was joining road we were on, so we could of stood and watched them without causing any problem to us or them and then could of ridden our 300 yards into drive of farm out of the way - simple really

Non-horsey people are ignorent to the fact that horses are flight animals, put it down to experience and next time ask the steward if they could contact you before future fixtures?!? There isn't anything you can do about it now, but you can for next time
On another note was hacking down the green lane today and somebody (assume form the running club) has dumped all their plastic signs in the ditch- don't get me started................

thanks, as you can tell i'm still grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr about it but the best bit was him telling me that i was i cr*p rider!!! and shouldn't ride such a bad horse!!! at that point i almosted PML cos i almost offered him to ride my horse or see their competetion record!!!

Oh yes Joe Bloggs seems to think riding horses is easy, bad bad horse for trying to run away from the strange whirring beast that is about to attack him! Was hacking out one sunday and stopped on verge to let a car past before I know it dad and three small children cycle between us millimentres from my 5 yr olds back legs, didn't know whether to laugh or cry, was a very good boy tho THANKGOD!
