Uncontrollable sweating in their horse? Over the winter Lizzie would start sweating for no reason. We couldn't put a rug on her at night because she just got so hot and then sometimes when she started eating her food or a haynet she would sweat, and I mean SWEAT. Other times she would be standing in her stable and just sweat sweat sweat. The vet said that some horses just do but I was just wondering if any of you have ever experienced this with your horse?

Has the vet suggested any tests?

I don't know if it's the same in horses but excessive sweating in humans and dogs usually means hormone imbalances. Maybe a blood test could be done to rule this out if it's a possibility?

It sounds like your horses body is possibly reacting to something. The only time mine gets like that is when he has been sedated.

Milliemoo, how old is your mare? Uncontrolled sweating like that, especially if it's got a strange, awful pong like stinky smelly socks, is a classic symptom of Cushings. Ask your vet to take blood for an ACTH test, You can go onto talkaboutcushings.com and print off a voucher that will get the lab test done for free. ACTH levels should be 30-40 ish depending on the time of year. When my horse was tested because of heavy, erratic sweating, his ACTH levels were 200! He's now on Pergolide and he's back to normal range and the sweating and all other symptoms have stopped. PM me for more info on other not-so-well-known symptoms x

She's 4 now... however the sweating has stopped now her coat has come out and the vet's been out to see her before and said there was nothing to worry about? Maybe if it comes back we'll have to get the vet out again... thanks for the advice though :) p.s it never used to smell :)
