hi i have a yearling anglo arab, and bout 7 weeks ago was seen hopping in the field and later on was told he just gave his tendon a bit of a pull, the vet said to put on ice clay to keep it cool but my boy had a horried reaction to it and it blisterd his skin looked like the most awful mud fever!

has anyone else had this problem? thank god the hair has nearly grown back now.

Come across a few horses who react to the clay. Most seem to be ok with the gels. May be worth doing some test patches with gels now so you know whats ok next time there is a prblem.

Hi my boy has tendon pull or maybe has torn a few fibres.I have been using cooling gel as he often has reaction to cold packs being tb his skin and coat are thin .To be quite honest Im unsure if his tendon is sore or the gel has made the skin broken and sore.I was going to buy some clay but think Ill just give him a bit longer after reading about your horses reaction.
Can I ask how long your vet thought it would be until he was better.Mine told me 2 to 3 weeks off but he sprung around in restricted paddock and we have heat and swelling again. Im almost embarressed to ring vet again as we have had such a accident and injury prone year.

hi my boy is an anglo it took his leg around 2 weeks max to heel an was onli on box rest for 3 days as was causing more injury in the stable than out!! wat the vet told us to do was to get him moving on it after around a week so it can strenghten and have a it wrapped up at night and take im off bute so he does not run around and it worked and was back to normal in no time, we used the cooling gel an we bandage it on with some gangy an that worked then the vet told us to use this ice clay and then the rest is hist, also we hosed twice a day for 20 mins and it went down. looked like a swiss role wen he 1st did it!!! the tendon was a bit "spongy" for a week after the main swelling went down, but then cleared up. Same here with my other mare and my my yearling must be to do with the TB in them lol. my mare just shattered her sesamoid bone,

Think I might have found the cause of lameness we have heat in the hoof and it looks like something is trying to burst out from crack in hoof wall. The tendon has settled so I was wondering why he was still horribly lame.Farrier can have a look tomorrow and vet said he will give me some antibiotics.Glad your boy has improved.

hope the mare gets better soon

let me no wat the problem is and i hope ur bubby gets better soon had one youngster before had a vets bill each month!!!

I can relate to that hes cost about £7000 and has been unrideable for two summers .If he carries on I will have to put him as a companion trouble is hes only 7 so is high maintenance. He does all his injuries in the field at least I know I havent caused them.He had spavin op in jan has done tendon ligament splint been kicked stood on nails run into various things my vet just cant believe my bad luck or his.

Ive asked the vet for a loyalty card I could book a holiday with the points accrued.Thats bad luck with your mare we have just bought a new horse for my daughter and I insisted on a mare at least they have a future if they cant be ridden.

You have stolen my chestnut maybe its a ginger thing my boy looks arab even though hes tb the only difference is his blaze he has two ginger rings in the middle looks like he has specs on or the scream mask.wow cant believe the similarities

gosh they do look the same scary! the yearling i have grand sire was nyjinski an ob den northern dancer blood lines in the TB side, you TB got fab lines in himand he has alot of qulaity in im
smile.gif

wat u do with your horses, jumping, XC?
xx

They are related down from njinski we have those blood lines.I havent been able to compete because of the on going injuries everything takes 6 months to heal tendon ligament etc and now with the spavin and splints he has had more time off.Hes been a field ornament for months. Its been a real trial Ive had him nearly 3 years and havent been able to do much. When I first had him we did jumping and he was doing really well 3 3 grids and ready to move to local shows I managed one xc practice and hes been broken since. If it continues I would rather he went to showing home than risk him keep breaking down.He was in terrible condition when I bought him he weighed 350 kg and is now 520 so you can imagine the difference hes really muscled up this year. I love him to bits as hes my first horse and just want the best for him its been really upsetting.

gosh he has gained weight, yer i no wat you mean, its so frustraightin, how big is he?
how long is it until the vet says the all clear?

Ill see farrier tomorrow he looks like he has abcess. The spavin looks good splints have just about gone and tendons settled.
He 16 h the new one tatty is the same my daughter took her to her first show yesterday and came home with 2 2nds and a 3rd so really pleased.

2 ft 3 novelty and 2 6 open and 2 6 optimum time.Next time we go will do 2 9 and 3 ft she has affiliated at 1m 5 I think thats about 3 6 mark although she hasnt competed properly .shes only 6 .Ive just downloaded a couple of pics onto the site so you should be able to have a look

Had farrier out he had heat in the hoof that disappeared after the farrier came argh.No abcess or problems but still lame. Will get the vet out again for navicular tendon and nerve blocks. He had scans and xrays in june op in jan and the insurance money is running out.I just dont know what to do with him anymore.

o god i hope it is not navicular, a horse down are yard had this lameness and had the xrays and nerve blocks it turned out to be something to do with the pedal bone has round shoes on an still jumps xc if ground is good, i hope he gets better, thank god for insurance!!
