I have moved my boy to a DIY yard he is so happy so be away from previous full livery yard as was being mistreated by YM and not fed properly. since I have moved him though he has turned into a monster to bring in, he has a lot of grass in his field and I really think that he is just feeling well but he's now started doing these leaps and rears in the school when I'm on him, does everyone agree that it is the grass?? He is also not even eating one section of hay a night as I think he is full of grass any ideas??
cookies if you got this far!!

All the usual qusestions about what else are you feeding him? His routine's obviously changed quite a bit so it could be lots of things. Might be grass, could you limit his grazing for a bit to find out?

Gotta be the grass!! Your boy is obviously feeling good and full of life with the spring! When Gem was out on rich grass she came in at night and wouldnt eat anything0 she was too busy resting her big tum!

Could always restrict grazing to half a day if it is too much of an issue?!

Good luck though hun~ sounds like fun to me!! xx

yes I was thinking of cutting the field in half, he is already in half the original field but I will cut it again, he only seems to be grazing at the front of the field anyway and most times I go up there he is standing in the field not grazing! I've cut everything out of his feed really he was on topline cubes, Alfa Oil, sugar beet etc etc as there was no grass where he was he was also on huge amounts of haylage, I have cut out the haylage and he is give hay, he is on safe and sound (handful) water instead of beet, and a handful of quite mix with carrots - it seems to be working but he then has a 'moment' I guess as he is so quiet in the stable I have assumed too soon that he has settled in!!!

honestly he really is a sweetie and he has stopped windsucking/cribbing since he has been away from the old yard, but he becomes like 'Tigger' not all the time but sometimes when I bring him in, he leaps in the air and then panicks as I assume he would normally get a smack so then he rears - I guess he is also just getting used to the fact that he will only have my voice rather than a whack, plus I know this sounds terrible but I thought it was funny in the school, I do really think that he is so stuffed that he is evading hard work!! LOL!! You're welcome anytime!!

Arrrhh bless. He sounds much, much happier since you moved him. Im glad you made the right choices.

I have about a week until Gem goes onto full livery. Im really going to miss feeding her each morning and doing everythings for her. Im such a control freak and event the fact that i wont be feeding her worries me!

Its a good yard though, so i shouldnt realy worry- cant help it though!x

he's great!! hey I know it will be difficult for you but honestly it is the only yard I would consider having full livery again with x

Since our pony has been on new grass she is even nuttier than usual, and is hardly touching her hay at night so it is probably the same with your lad. Plus I bet he is feeling so much happier in himself, your old yard sounds a nightmare.

Ours are still on no turn out (typical) and my retired one has become a monster when leading out to grass and the big black one is full of the joys of spring every time i ride, so it may just be the frequent weather changes and not just the grass!!
