I took over my horses insurance a few months ago from my mum and it was (i think) about £26 a month. Last week a renewal letter came and it is now £36. This includes:

Loss of animal
Vets Fees
Personal Liability
Tack
Personal Accident
Temporary total disablement

I could do with reducing the premium a bit if i could and am thinking of removing tack from this as it is only a synthetic saddle and is also covered by Buildings and Contents Ins at home, but dont think that will drop it much.

What does the insurance you get as a BHS Gold Member cover you for as i have this?

I also have some personal liability insurance with insurance i have for work as a self employed groom - is this the same as on the horse insurance or different?!?!?!?

I think i might be covered for the same thing by various companies!!

Thanks

The best way to find out exactly what you're covered for is to contact the company.

Regarding your tack cover.....I think if you read the small print you will find that your saddle, unless you have specifically asked, will not be covered. For some reason insurance companies do not class saddle as tack. Tack appears to be everything except the saddle. Additionally you may find that your tack will not be covered if you keep it on a yard where there are more that 5 horses.

If you have an all risk home insurance policy you will probably find that your tack will actually be covered on that.

Have a read of the policy & check out the fine print..OK

I have personal accident, tack cover up to £800,horse insured to £1800,he is worth more but at the end of the day i could replace him with a decent youngster for that amount(i could and would never replace him but...),i opted out of loss of use, made the premium rediculous amount, few other things covered, cant remeber without looking at documents, lol, costs me £32 a month with kbis(have been fantastic),mine goes up by a couple of pounds each yr but after speaking to people theirs does to!!All reputable insurance companies you will pay for, unlike some i cant mention due to defammoratory reasons!

I am always amused and befuddled about that "more then 5 horses" bit, I mean, it's so totally stupid and a good loophole for them!! I keep meaning to find otu if it means per locked tack room as my saddle is locked within a locker in a locked tack room therefore I would say that it isn't really kept WITH the other saddles.

I just have vets fees, personal insurance and BHS gold membership and im £179 a year with horse at a 2499 value.

insurance companies always put up the premium at renewal, they think people won;t shop around so best to do just that, get a few quotes, you're bound to find one cheaper then phone the insurance company you're with and ask them to match or beat the quote, most of the time they come up with the goods.
