This happened to me & my mum last tear, we was having a steady canter round the edge of a field went round the bend, with a couple from the same yard having a steady canter aswell towards us, but the two coming towards us, the lady's pony just stopped dead as she went for a flying lesson. We was all ok & still chuckle about it now. I have met a hutn once on my haffie he just got abit joggy!

Although we do hunt it is actually another hunt that hunts right near us and we have met them a few times and being naughty taken young ones out when we knew they would be in the area and nearly always met them right on the road.

Its good experience if not a bit exciting for them and always nice to see.

Happened today! Not to me - but we knew they were coming by the yard, supposedly about 3.00 so YO told everyone to get out early. Was watching a lesson at 12 when we heard the horn and everyone said 'Oooh, that was close!' so I went to look outside and there they were! Hundreds of them! They looked stunning in the sunshine and just headed off up the drive.

One of the girls was out and met them, so she went back another way and met them again! Came back safe and sound, though! There were some other people who saw them and just came back.

The boys in the lesson were good as gold as they went by (except for one who thought he was going to join them! :D)

I have!

was hacking with two friends...it was around christmas time and we had just decided to hack out one morning, not even considering that they would be in the area. Anyway, we got down to the village and there were hundreds of wagons and trailers everywhere.

One of my friends was mortified as she usually went out with that particular hunt, and he horse was looking distinctly unkempt, very fluffy (needing a good clip as it was growing out) and was covered in mud as she'd only brushed where the tack went!! haha

To make matters worse, I was riding dolly, who is a wholley mammoth at the best of times and whilst i was in the middle of clipping her, she had blunted the blades so one side was immaculate and the other side was half done (luckily, it was the left side so as we rode down the road and the hunt rode past us, they only saw the lovely smart side! haha)

and to top it off...the other girl with us had put reindeer antlers on her horse to celebrate the festive period!!

haha! So not any disasters with speed, loss of control or misbehaviour...just one scruffy horse, one with a dodgy hair cut and rudolf bringing up the rear!

out hacking today and bumped into the local beagle pack. No horses but as soon as our horses saw the beagles coming towards them barking and all over the place they thought we were joining the hunt. From then on we had joggy horses all the way home and the beagles in the fields along side us all the way home.

Many times!

Not so funny when I am riding one and leading another.

One occasion I was riding a NH horse that belonged to the Queen's Mother. He was a great favourite of hers but had the most terrible legs. He was also exceedingly nappy, thinking nothing of going sideways through a hedge or standing vertical but worse was standing planted in front and kicking out with both hind legs sending the rider forward whereby he would spin sideways.
Anyway, I was out on him when the hunted fox came running about 50 yards ahead of me, hounds were fairly close behind but the rest were about three fields away.
I let all pass us and then tried to trot on but Special started doing his voluntary performance of high school work and gave the field a chance to catch up.
They were all heading in my homeward direction so after the whip and Master had charged past, I followed, Jumped several fences, waded through a small river, and when we were in the village I had a right royal battle to get him to go home!
Never hurt him at all - he went back into training a week after and a month after that won the Grand Military.

I honestly dread to think what Kal would do if we met the hunt out hacking. He gets excited enough when we meet other horses and riders! He hunted alot before I bought him so I suspect he'd be well up for it . . . not me though ;).

had a little incident a few years ago when taking my daughter round the farm on her old pony, she was still on lead rein, heard the hunt in the distance but as they aren't allowed on the farm didn't pay too much attention. Next thing we know a fox goes flying along the hedge of the field we're in:eek: cue one jumpy pony as he can hear the horn and the hounds getting close so i grabbed daughter off just as the first hounds and huntsmen came into sight:eek: pony panicked and legged it............... in opposite direction to the hunt straight back across the field to our gateway lol, stood there until a friend got hold of him and waited while we watched the hunt fail miserably to get control of the hounds who ended up in 3 different fields:rolleyes: in the end after lots of shouting and cussing they took most of the pack off the farm but left 3 stragglers behind with one lone huntsman trying to get them back:rolleyes:
now we make sure we don't ride if they're local because they have no control over the hounds and invariably end up places that they're not supposed to so you can't always avoid getting tangled up with them!

Always used to hack my old mare out when hunt was in area, she loved cubbing but I couldn't afford hunt subscriptions. Used to gee her up nicely, and one day Prince Charles came trotting alongside us, had a little chat with him! :D

Many years ago, have had a few hairy moments! I dread meeting them with Markie as I believe he would just go with them and I'd have to sit there like a passenger! Far easier to just stay in the sand school when the hunt's in our area.

Yes, whilst out on my stallion. We got swept along for a few fields  but he was so funny, he thought he was highly precious and was outraged to find himself splashed with mud  and bumped by horses who were all sweaty and blowing  He was so relieved when they all streaked off and we could just bimble along again.

I'm a bit puzzled really. Why is meeting the hunt so scary? I have only been riding 3 1/2 years and I hunt weekly and they are fine except they take the mick if I see them when I'm hacking but ned is fine, he does what he is told

Because not all horses are used to the experience and it might completely blow their mind!!!

I've met the hunt out hacking but luckily we spotted people on foot first, realised and legged it back home before we got into trouble.

Yes, Mike has hunted and gets very excited by it, when they're in the area he gets a faraway look, completely loses concentration, perhaps planting and growing a few inches taller, possibly followed up with a bit of piaffe and some high pitched squealing

As I'm a bit deaf and he can hear them, this is how I know they're there before we see them
