I was so impressed to know that friends horse can do this, just had to share! Personally never seen anything like it before... but clearly it does happen!!
Horse is fine, been re-shod!!

Nope I suppose only got to be a slight metal fatigue weakness at least it was spotted before it caused any problem. Or it gets lost in the long grass ready for me to drive over it!!! I found a long lost shoe at end of this winter....and had been on look out for it for past two years! But a split nope!

Yes a few months ago my haffy come in with just this bit left on his foot, snapped clean in half & luckily when I bought him in & pciked them out my farriers where just about to drive of the yard from doing others & they were shocked as never had it happen before.

Yes seen it before on my old pony in his final years (35-40). He started to twist his off hind slightly when ridden due to arthritis and his shoe began to wear more on one spot (he was in daily work, hacking and also showing still), resulting in his shoe wearing very thin in the middle and sometimes splitting. Farrier built shoe up accordingly.

Wow, never seen anything like that before although it obviously does happen going by other posts. I wonder if it is a fault in the metal when the shoe is made that leaves a weakness!
