Has Anyone ever offered Money for your horse?

Have you ever had anyone come up to you and offer to buy your horse off you? And did you say yes or no? Was the offer what the horse was worth, too little or more than it was worth?

I've never had it happen to me but do know someone who was given a blank cheque for their horse and they turned it down. And there was also the owner of Oki Doki the showjumper who was offered £2.2m and turned it down.
 
I have not had money offered for the Donkey (suprise suprise) however I tracked her down and begged her owner to sell her to me - I know I paid over the market value, but guess what I don't care!

A couple of Hunting men have offered to buy my boy in the past.
I would have declined whatever the price but I didn't let it go beyond that as being tight a*ses they would only have insulted me!!

Yes, and turned it down! At first they offered what I would consider to be about spot on (at the time), when I turned it down, they went over - I still said no, without a split second hesitation and they realised that no money would do and that was that!
And I don't regrett it at all!!
 
Someone asked to buy my mare when she was a youngster - never found out what they were prepared to offer and I said she wasn't for sale!
 
i have, it was when my reg standard shetland woud have been 5 or 6 - the young girl stabled nextdoor liked my pony, her rich uncle was looking for a pony for his son and they thought of my pony - the offered over £1000 (for a shetland - would have been 1998) to me he is priceless and i wouldnt sell him regardless of the money but even i know - that was an amazing offer for a shetland!!! (he has got good breeding but - a shetland!)
 
Got followed around a show last year by the person we bought her off looking to buy her back again as he didn't think she'd ever turn out so well!! He kept offering us more and more money, eventually he said that we were never ever to sell her without ringing him first LOL..
 
Ive been offered money for Archie once when i was out competing him, it was actually at his first competition. A woman came up to me when i was riding around and said her trainer was interested in him and what offers would i take. I said non, she came back and said she'd give me £12.5k for him.
 
Yes and I took it.
Years ago I had a 2 year old arab colt whose breeding suddenly became very fashionable when his half brother started doing well racing, he went out to Qatar.
 
a lady approached my mum at a small show about my old skewbald cob. she asked if we would sell her and we said no and she said if you ever change your mind give me a call and name your price and she left her number.
 
Yes. Had my old coloured horse and the bosses Highland tied to the back of the trailer and a couple came up and asked if they both were for sale. I said no and they nodded and went away. However I spotted them watching us all day and both horses won all the classes they were in and they came back and asked if I had a price for my lad as they were genuine and liked him that much.
Sold him a month later after a bidding war over him !!
Nobody ever asks if my lad I have now is for sale but I think he is worth ten of the coloured I had, but he is just a plain bay colour !!

Twice actually - both for show ponies. In one instance we were not ready to sell as the rider had at least another year left with her 'perfect' pony and the second referred to a pony which I leased! In hindsight I thought the prospective purchasers were a bit hasty - to see an 11.2 perform at a show and then offer to buy the animal for a small child on that brief sighting seems odd to me.
 
This has happened to me twice. Once, a looong time ago I had a lovely little leopard spot gelding. I was out with him every weekend to try and get him some experience (jumping) as he seemed to suffer stage fright - first round in he'd just freeze and refuse point blank to move for a good 20 seconds and then very spookily go round with multiple refusals. Second round he'd fly round

Anyway, took him in a class where he had done his usual planting. I came out and said (jokingly) to my mum "that's it! Im selling him!" A little old man appeared out of nowhere and started offering us cash for him despite me trying to explain it was a joke

More recently, we've been approached for my new boy. About 2 months after we bought him we were offered rather a lot of money for him and much more than we paid but (thankfully) my OH said it was out of the question

Yep I was offered good money (well over what she was worth)for Lillie in the warm up at Oldencraig a few years ago but turned it down. A lady at Merrist Wood also asked if Megan was for sale but not sure if she would have seriously made an offer. I wish somebody would come and make me an offer for Bailey!!!!

Yes twice. First time I said no as was not ready to sell that horse. Second time I said yes as was planning to sell horse anyway plus the figure was double what I valued the horse at.
 
Yep. Bought my ponio for £750 pounds as a project.

Was offered £4k for her off the hunting field two years later. Obviously said no.

So, anyway I'm still seeing the shrink, and the therapy is going ok I think...........

I was with a lady at a show once and one of the judges came up to her after the show and told her to name her price for her Welsh stallion. She declined.
 
Yes. I bought my mare in 2003, and I took her to a couple of the local shows. We won the speed class twice in a row and got placed in the next class both times too. After the 2nd show, hubby had a phone call asking if we owned blue lorry and bay horse etc, won speed classes? "Yes."
"Is it for sale?" hubby said "No, sorry mate, she belongs to my wife"
Man then offered more than twice what we paid, 5 figures, and then he asked if she is for sale again.
Hubby then said, "I don`t think she would sell her"
SO it went from no, not for sale, to don`t think so.
Typical man.
Still got her and she is staying. Love it to bits.

Got offered a lot for my old eventer when he was qualifed for a championship, but I turned it down. I knew I might never have another horse qualifed at that level again, and as I was getting divorced at the time I'd only have got half the money anyway!

never been offered a sum of money, but on numerous occasions people asked me if my old pony was for sale. we turned them down as it was in the middle of the eventing season and i had so much planned with him and we where at the peak of our year!
someone has already asked if we would sell tara at solihull on saterday! didnt have to think twice about that one though

quite a few times-mostly peeps asking if he is for sale. I just said nooo!!had a few vvv generous offers though-double what i bought him for!!tempting but would never give him away right now!(if only they would stick around for when i HAVE to sell him....)

Had an offer of just over £5k for madam a few monthes back. Apart from being shocked at the size of the offer I didn't hesitate to say no - she is too precious to me to put a price on.
