Has Anyone ever offered Money for your horse?

Bought my horse bout 4 years ago for 2000 euro and would have classed him as a problem horse, 6 weeks after I was offered 8000 for him but turned it down and last year was offered 10 times what I paid for him and over but again turned it down, I figured I've put so much work and effort into him I may as well enjoy competing him now he's so good. He's also extremely quirky to ride and handle and tbh I don't know if he would go aswell for anyone else or if anyone else could understand him like I do!!! I also put alot of work into my first pony and he became such a super schoolmaster and was so safe and easy to ride, I was offered a blank cheque for him and had a queue of people ready to buy him when I outgrew him but I would never part from him as he's my best friend and now my sister has just grown into him and they're both having a great time.

£2K offered for ride and drive (unregistered) Section A, she's a fantastic lead rein pony for the ground or from another horse, is a cracking first ridden, jumps 2'3", will do a dressage test, is very competitive in games and loves to be shown. As for her driving - she's described by a reasonable instructor as "an absolute diamond". Officially she's my husband's pony and he wouldn't sell her so she stands in the field and does nothing.

My trainer was approached to see if we'd sell our bigger Welsh cob - price tag of £5.5K to my shock. He exactly fits what we want at the moment so turned the offer down. Just hope someone else wants him that much when we decide to sell!

Well if they did, it's been since Olympia....coz he was still riding it there and that's where they commented on it

Got offered a alot money for my event mare. now I do think every horse has a price and I would have sold any other horse of mine without a second thought at that money, but this mare is too special, talented and quirky for me to ever sell her, horses like her don't come around very often and I want to take her as far as I can and then have lots of beautiful foals from her!

i have been offered money for my mare thre tomes last year but wont sell her sold one a couple of years ago when i was made a good offer as was thinking of selling anyway but lived to regret selling him still miss him now boo hoo

Yes, once only. I was offered £18k for Gen at the Summer Regionals. I wouldnt sell him for all the money in the world tho. (even when he is being a SuperPrat!).

Yes, for every single horse I rode in Spain LOL! Gitano, cost £700, sold for £3.5k, Capitano, cost £550, sold for £4k (he was PRE), Herbie was a freebie, sold for £2.5k, didn't part with any of the others (owned not by me I hasten to add). Was offered £10k for Cercs (a LOT of money then), 12k for Emily

and a few mothers tried to buy Lucera but I wouldn't sell her to a child as she was just too nuerotic! Did not sell any of those 3 and they all went on loan when I moved over here.

A guy that has seen Porridge hunting has said if I ever want to sell her then he will buy her for more than I paid
grin.gif
But she isn't going anywhere yet!

The people we bought Glen from were given a blank cheque but they refused as it wasn't a good enough home. And we got him instead for £3500 (10 years ago). I don't think we were offered any money for him but there was a que of people who wanted him after us. Sadly he died before we could give anymore children the joy of riding him. If I ever find another Glen I would go and offer a lot of money (if I had it). But I think he was so special there will never be another one.

I paid 500 quid for G 6 weeks ago. I have been offered 1200 for him already, by a local lady who is after a first pony.
Oh, and he's not registered! (for those of you who don't know, G is a shettie).

*creeps back out again*.

A steward said to me after i jumped at BSPS winter champs 2005 and just before i did my show "ide offer you £20,000 for her right now."

I laughed it off, and would let her go then anyway. Unfortunately, she was PTS due to peritonitus in november of the same year

absolutely devasteated about her death. lost a best friend and pony of a lifetime.

not been offered any money for skye yet but we`ve only been to a couple of shows

but my old pony was at a xc event and someone came up and offered her old owner £3000 for her but she refused

Yes, and I took it! It put me through University without student debt and allowed me to live on my own in a decent flat for my last two years. He was my horse of a lifetime, I had taken him from 0 to Grade A and jumped an international class on him. It broke my heart to sell him, but I knew I had to as I didn't have the ability to be a professional rider. He went to a good home, and eventually ended up in the USA as a schoolmaster. I still miss him terribly, but I know I did the right thing.

Had a few offers on my 14.2 showjumper some years ago when he still young enough to jump big fences. I always said no though, he was one of those horses of a lifetime. I have no regrets at all. He passes away last year and one of the last things I said to him was to thank him for some of the happiest memories of my life - you can't put a price on those

have had offers to but Hati, but she is not for sale and don't want to even know what they would offer as its bad luck to down good money for a horse, so don't want to know the offer in the first place.

She means everything to us and so will never be for sale.

Harley: well if offered the 'right' sort of money would consider selling him (he's 2 so have another 2 years to see if he is any good)

A few years ago an irish man offered 7k for Harry (he was 10 at the time) after he had won the 3'0, 3'3 and the piusance (sp?) class at 4'11" all in one day!

Said no of course! He is here for life

My mum could offer £12000 by mark todd in the early 80s for an eventer. She turned it down and regrets it now!

Yes ,about 18 years ago I rode for a BD judges exam and later that night Lady Inchcape phoned me to ask if I would sell my horse.I bought him as a 4year old and he was now10 and just started PSG my husband was made redundant from work and had not found another job so we were broke. We travelled round in a single trailer and I couldn't afford any training. Lady Inchcape didn't buy him but I realised how much he was worth and sold him very easily. He had a great home and I went to see him but it broke my heart

Maybe its because Irish people are known for "producing" horses as opposed to buying the been there, done that variety, but many of my horses and ponies and those Iv ridden in the past have had offers placed on them by passers by etc.

Most recently I was hacking out the 17.2hh bay 4yo iv been schooling and was stopped by a middle=aged man who offered a substantial amount of money for him as a hunter. He still stops every time he sees the horse in the school (its right beside the road at the edge f the city) or out on the roads. Horse is now going to be sold and I think the guy is negotiating to buy him.

I sold a 3yo skewbald gelding by Touchdown (in 2004 when thanks to Liscalgot's win in WEG '02, Touchdown offspring were high fashion) to an Australian eventing dealer who had come to the yard to look at another horse. I was backing my guy when he arrived and had just turned the horse into the paddock when he was leaving and the blasted horse "popped" over the 5bar gate for fun. Sold there and then for just under 20,000euro (had been bought entire and semi-feral! just 7mths earlier for a tenth of the price. I had only a 50% share in him though. I was in Leaving Cert so it wasnt really feasible to hang onto him.

One of my ponies had a larger amount offered for her by a dealer/Equestiran centre owner, breeder and father of 3Irish showjumpers about 5yrs AGO. She was bought cheaply as a late backed 5yo with behavioral problems (rearing and bucking, terrified in traffic and difficult to load) and turned around into a Grade A showjumper as an 8yo. I had taken her to this guy's EC for a Pony Club B test exam and he offered my parents a large sum for her but at the time she wasnt for sale (she was rising 7 and Grade B at the time I think). We sold her aged 8 for a higher price but the buyer's daughter couldnt ride her and pony ended up getting eliminations even in Cd (1m05) classes where she had been winning and placed at 1m20-1m30 level a month earlier. They got another young rider to jump her and he won or placed on her everytime over the next 8mths or so including at the Cavan Home Pony International and RDS Qualifiers. Despite this she changed hands for less than 4,000euro at Cavan Sport horse sales and the guy who was originally interested picked her up for a fraction of what hed offerd us! Gather he made a packet on her too! Having said that, Id give anything to have her back and have not come across any record of her competing since. Given her flighty nature I wouldnt be surprised if she is no longer competing s she definitely required a capable and fearless rider.

Had someone on the hunting field offer me I think it was £500 for Dan as a hunter (before they saw the lack of brakes LOL ) I politely refused and had to giggle as my YO later told him that he would have to double it and add a 0 to come close (was placing at 1m25 level at the time about 4 years ago but still in Newcomers money)

Santa my old pony though had multiple offers to buy though don't know if a sum was ever banded about (should ask my mum actually!!). Most wanted him as an all rounder or showjumper (he was JA and would jump 1m15-1m20s) but on one occasion at Addington a random man (who turned out to be the father of one of the pony team riders at the time) came up to us enquiring about our breeding and that if we ever wanted to sell him to contact him
grin.gif
that made me very proud kiddy as was only about 14 at the time.
grin.gif

When I finished on ponies floods of enquiries came in but we had already decided not to sell him and loan him from home to some more novicey riders who needed a schoolmaster which he was perfect as. disappointed quite a few people but i know he has been and still is a happy pony

Yes I have been offered money, Someone offered me twice what I paid for my mare when I first got her, I said no, mind you I wish they were there last year when I wanted to sell her LOL.

Also when I worked at a point to point yard I remember we took one of the horses out for his maiden race, he hadnt even raced yet, was just in the ring and a man came up to me and offered me £8k for him there and then. Wasnt mine to sell of course though!

Steven Smith- that Irish guy- offered £15k for Owen as a 4 year old
However he was only introduced to me as 'THE steven smith' and have since heard that there are several famous steven smiths about in Ireland so am not sure which one he was.
I think it was the eventing steven smith who also deals in good event horses.

Yes. The first one I ever bought was an exactly 4 month-old TB x NF colt. I paid £182 for him at Beaulieu Road Pony Sales (in the New Forest, for those not familiar). The next day I received a phone call from a chap who had been at the sales and whose wife had fallen in love with the foal but they couldn't stay until his lot came up. (The aucioneers had, rather unethically, given out my phone number) He offered me £500 (mad . . . quite mad) so, after a bit of humming and haa-ing, I agreed to sell him. It gave me the money to go and buy something I'd wanted since I was 6 (I was 46 at the time!) - a pure-bred Arab!!!!
