Has anyone ever put their hands over their horses eyes whilst it was bolting?

Right you need someone else... you need to stand at the top of the field with the camera rolling ( but have an escape route as horse will be blind) and get someone else to poke the horse up the bum to make it bolt..... don't let us down!
 
No, but I tried covering my last horse's eyes with a large breeze-block wall in an attempt to stop....



It worked:D
 
I have trained my pony to stop when I put my arms round his neck and hug him. We practice it every once in a while from walk and trot, and it works every time. Any other person who rides him I get to try it too, and it always works. A useful trick I thought. Don't think I could reach his eyes though.

I had one bolted with a carriage. Stopped by pointing him at a wire fence, (otherwise we were heading for the wrong side of a dual carriageway!) which he duly jumped. The carriage broke 2 fence posts, but came to an immediate halt. Conveniently, he was then already in a field, to cool off once I'd released the harness.

Note: this is not ideal for the driver. Flying lessons are advised. :o)
 
Nope not tried it. The only true bolter I have ridden would have taken no notice anyway. The expression "blind panic" relates exactly to a true bolter. When you've watched a pony panic and run into the wall of an indoor school, bounce off and carry on running into the next wall in his way and the next and the next and the next it changes your view on bolting.

In order to test the theory, we need two attempts filming. One without eyes covered and one with eyes covered.

Can I be the spooker please ? (Wanders off to find tin cans, flappy things and a few pigs...)
