Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I thought similar, I don't know anything about them but had a google and found this:

ETA also found this, might be useful: http://www.extension.umn.edu/agriculture/horse/health/club-feet/

Looks like a club foot to me.. caused by DDFT issues.

Thanks both - LittleBlackMule... would DDFT issues appear on an x-ray? This was my filly at 12 months old, with remedial shoeing her heel came down and she got a 'normal' hoof, but stop the shoeing etc and her heel is creeping up and rather clubby again

However her x-rays have consistently presented as 'normal' although she has HUGE stifles

Can anyone advise prognosis of a club foot in terms of % chance of being ridden? I have some decisions to make about her

Thanks so much

I haven't seen this but it doesn't look like a typical club foot to me, more that he is standing on his toe, not putting heel down but I can't see clearly.. A vet is required and urgently if it's a youngster imho.

ps. Sorry didn't see your last post op but this horse will need further remedial action. In older horses club feet are often due to diagonal body issues I believe.

Don't panic she has seen a variety of vets, and prognosis has varied from contracted tendon, to club foot, to wobblers....

She was box rested on the premise it was a contracted tendon and then remedial shoeing with toe extension resulted in the following improvements:

But since then as soon as the ground is soft she walks on her toe, doesnt put her heel down and her foot basically isn't growing in the normal shape (very upright, she also drags her toe so very short, and heel isn't on ground. She is currently boxed over night and over night her heel sort of sinks down, but then as soon as she is out on the soft it creeps up. She stands by default with that leg forward.

She has been x-rayed hip to toe and nothing unusual - she was born and had 'normal' hooves for the first year of her life. her other hind is very upright but 'normal'

I am having to start making decisions about her future, i know horses can be ridden with club feet, and she certainly can shift around the field, but she is approaching 3 and i need to decide on whether i keep going and keep trying to get to the bottom of it, or if its curtains. But no one can tell me what i am actually dealing with, and no one can give me a definitive prognosis

There are various causes of club feet, one being a shortening/contraction of the DDF tendon and flexural deformity of the coffin joint. In your photo the leg looks swollen which could indicate the tendon being the issue.
I would have thought a scan should show it up.
