Has anyone ever taken your photo while hacking?

I have been on both sides of the camera! I am a horse artist, and need to photograph my own material due to copyright issues. If Im close enough to ask, I will, but its not always possible! I take a lot of pictures on the gallops at Newmarket (so if you are a work rider you could feature in my files lol) at shows/sales. I am always polite though, I would never shove a big camera rudely in front of a rider and start snapping, thats just weird!

I was hacking through our village with a friend once on my cob, when a car pulls up behind us, with american visitors in. Turns out they were staying with family and had seen us pass the house, so they jumped in the car to catch up! They were so excited it was really funny, got the child out of the car to pose for photos and went on and on about how amazing it was that we rode 'down the street' 'OMG thats soooooo amayyyzing' 'they will never believe their eyes back home' *chuckle*
We rode on in stunned silence for a minute before collapsing with fits of the giggles. Hilarious.
 
We were doing fast work in the woods one day when we almost ran into a large group of people walking spread out accross the bridleway! They were very apologetic and asked us if we would possibly go back down the track and gallop back towards them so they could take pictures! It was a lovely sunny day in the woods and the sand tracks are like gallops - the people were Amercian, maybe they thought the horses were racehorses ;)
 
Happens fairly often to me, it can be quiet touristy so I guess they like to get piccy's of the horses on the beaches. I had a very old fella once come out of his home and bless his heart he had tears in his eyes because of my lad. He said he'd worked with Shire horses in his youth and seeing Kane had made his day, he asked for a photo and then his son took some of the man standing beside Kane. It was lovely to see him so happy, didn't have the heart to tell him that Kane isn't actually a full shire but that didn't matter.
 
Yup, I keep him at livery in a big country park, so there are a lot of tourists about in the summer. We quite often get people asking if they can take pictures when we're out hacking.
 
Our fields have a fabulous backdrop - the Cheviot Hills - frosty or snowy weather brings out the photographers as they like to get horses in the foreground of their shots of Cheviot with snow on the summit! We have learned not to be too suspicious as there are so many of them!
 
This has happened with us when we’ve been catching the horses in from the fields, some random chap wanted to take a few shots.

My OH is a photographer and gets VERY animated about the whole ‘I’m a photographer not a criminal’ debate. Its sad that people are so suspicious about someone wanting to take a photo….but then we are constantly told to live in fear so no surprise really.
 
I was up in the middle of nowhere and a blokey with a camera asked if he could take our piccie; he said my horse "had a nice face" (???!!!!) and could he take a picture of us. He explained he was learning digital photography and their week's "project" was to get pictures of contrasts, i.e. black & white. Mine's a piebald, so he was delighted to be able to get a shot of something different to show to the class!

I'm sure he was OK; but after reading some people's stories on this thread it just shows you can't be too careful.

Horse is actually a warmblood, by Gribaldi, bought him when he was 4 and 17.1, he is now 7 and just keeps growing, exceeds the height of the measuring stick now:rolleyes::eek:
 
My Traditional is frequently asked to pose for photo's when out and about. No one ever asks for photo's of the lovely TB or WB I'm riding, just the Hairy One. I think its the image of the huge muscly chest and the flying mane, feathers and roadsweeping tail.
 
My husband is an artist and he never goes anywhere without his camera and is often wwandering round randomly taking photos so a lot of the stories above don't surprise me at all! He doesn't tend to take photos of random people on horses when out and about as the images wouldn't be very saleable, so would only bother if it was maybe the hunt or horses on a beach (don't see that much round our way!) or something a bit unusual and interesting.

He does however have an interest in architecture and that is when I often worry about what people must think when they see "some random bloke" taking a photo of their front door or chimney......

Incidentally you can legally photograph anything as long as you are on public property. There is no obligation to ask permission, although obviously it is polite to do so. DH only asks if someone is around, he wouldn't knock on a door to ask to take a photo of someone's house or pet. Oh and we have had people recognise their own house that has been used in a picture, but they are normally happy about it.

**** Pedantic, he doesn't hang out in the river gardens so not the same artist!!!
 
Yes, more than once, usually tourists.

One chap recently took our picture and said that his family back in South Africa didn't believe we had horses in England, hard to believe as we were on a hill overlooking one of the most famous racecourses in the world! :rolleyes:

About twelve yaers ago, I was riding on the same hill when I came across a film crew who filmed me as I rode past. A few days later a friend of my sister phoned her to tell her that they'd seen me on Blue Peter! :eek: :o
