Has anyone ever written to their horse's old owner?

yea i said to them they could come over and see him whenever cos they only live 15mins down the road they never did and never rang
i sent them a xmas card with pics and satying what i had done with him and how far he was coming on etc and they never replied :(
 
Yes, I've been in touch with a breeder of a Connie I had - lovely lady, who sent me photo's and told me of his foal days. Am still in touch with the breeder of a pony we have. Would love to know where the dealer I bought my horse of has gone to (he's still with me being ever so good). The old owners and loaners of a mare we have are always happy to hear how she's doing and we have one in and one out on loan and are in touch all the time with both families. I don't get the sell and move on mentality. I just must have been lucky with all ours. I think when I buy, I buy the people and have never been wrong on my judgement with who is a genuine person and who isn't. Well, only one person, but in that case I wasn't buying or selling...

I tracked my horses breeder down in Ireland through Facebook! Took me a long time but well worth it! Know all about her now and have kept in touch with the breeder. You should def post it.
 
I bought my second horse from her breeder. We keep in otuch. I see them 2 or 3 times a year. i have sent them photos of her competeing & now her foals. She was the first homebred they had sold & they loved getting updates.
 
Yes. Bought a horse from a dealer had it a week it turned out to be a total nutcase almost killed me I sent 2 letters with my phone number on to the two previous owners. I posted the letters at 4pm 1st class and by 10a.m. the next morning both had rung me one was a breeder that had bought him to nanny her youngsters and he almost killed her. The other that she hadn't ridden him for over a year as he was unpredictable. I rang the dealer thinking I'm going to lose money here but I will take her all the way to court if I have to. She said bring him back he's been fine while he's been with me for the last 2 months I took him back and she paid me the full price I had given her. She rang me a month later the horse had done the same thing to her groom she sold him cheap to a riding school:eek: but asked if I would give her a written statement that she had stood by her sale and given me the money back with no problem as she wanted to put it on her new website. I did.
 
I sold my horse last year (to a dealer, not ideal but unavoidable at the time) and i've love it if a new owner got in touch. I'm desperate to know where she is, but daren't ring the dealer in case anything bad happened. It's a case of sticking my head in the sand, but i'd love to know!
 
I sold a mare i had for 4 years in goresbridge sales to a dealer, and her new owner contacted me, and 15 years later, she still has her, sends me on pics, so i'd chance it and see how it goes. The worst that can happen is that they dont get in contact(tried that with a horse i once had), but give it a shout and see. You might be surprised!!
 
I googled the name of the only owner listed on the passport other than the person I bought my new pony from. Turns out she is a PC DC and her phone number came up for a dressage comp 'ring for times'. So I phoned her and she seemed really pleased to hear of her old pony. Turns out he competed on PC intermediate teams (a higher level than I had expected) and had done well in dressage gaining eights for his paces. She offered to email me some pics, which she did. She also said in her email that she would have bought him had she seen his ad and if I ever want to loan him to let her know.

So I am really pleased that I contacted her and I would be really pleased to hear from the owners of the horses that I have sold.
 
I bought my pony from someone who'd had him 6 months to bring him on a bit, and on some of the paperwork she gave me there was an address for the owner before that who'd had him for a year. I wrote to her enclosing an SAE but didn't get a reply. Did search for some details on Google and her name came up as she was being evicted from some agricultural buildings as she'd secretly had it converted inside to a house and yet had no planning permission and retrospective planning permission she applied for was not granted. I didn't know whether her lack of response to me was due to the mess she was in or because there was something she didn't want to say about the pony but I didn't bother dwelling on that for too long. I just wanted a bit more info about his origins as it's possible he came off May Hill in Gloucestershire as there's a commoner/grazer who is allowed to keep horses up there though it's owned by the National Trust.
