has anyone every sent someone else to view a horse

its a good idea for a YO trainer to go with you to have a look or go on your behalf if its too far for you to go as they know your riding ability etc.

Although you have to remember your paying for the fuel for them to get there then your also going to be paying a rate for someone to go try it for you.

Yes, I have sent fellow HHOers to view horses for me - in 2 counts it is a bloody good job I did as NEITHER horse was what was advertised and I would have traveled hundreds of miles for nothing!

My mum sent her friend to look at our Shetland many year ago. We still have her 20 odd years later!

I don't think we have ever send anyone to view a horse but we always phone up our friends around the country or DCs etc to see if they know the horse.

Yes, when i was looking 5 years ago, my mum went along to view any prospective purchases as i was working full time and struggled to get any time off work. I found it useful as she knows what i like and could suss out whether it would be suitable. She actually went to see Alfie for me and didn't think i would like him even though both she and my sister raved over him afterwards. It wasn't until a few days later we decided that perhaps i ought go and have a little look at him and thankfully as soon as i saw him, i knew i had to have him!!

On two occasions I have asked friends to go view horses for me that were over 400 miles away from me. It has worked really well - bought both

I have also bought horses from videos & photographs, that has been fine too. That has been unbroken youngsters, babies or broodies.

Yes, I've had my new chap about 3 weeks now and I just couldn't find the time to make the 8 hour round trip myself so sent a much more experienced friend to see it for me (I did however do all the chatting with owner on phone and as much checking them/him out before I sent my friend up there). I would have trusted her opinion over my own any time. I have mug written on my forehead when trying horses as I'm a soft touch and apparently display my own lack of confidence in my own judgement/knowledge like a red flag. The new horse is just lovely, perhaps a tad insecure at this point but I'm sure he'll improve, and I did my first ever sponsored ride on him last weekend - including cantering and jumps which I hadn't tackled at home first - and it was really good fun. It was huge 'ask' of my friend but I knew she would be totally subjective and honest. A good result. Hope it works out for you too. Good luck.
