Has anyone got a quad?

on our fourth i think for the farm we have a suuki auto 4wheel drive 400, second one of these, but you wouldn't need a huge quad but this sizeis most popullar farm quad.
 
We have a Yamaha Big Bear 350 (4-wheel drive) for the farm and it copes really well with all the heavy duty jobs.....
 
we have a honda 4x4 (not sure on the model but its quite old) its made life so much easier for us, harrowing, rolling, leveling, poo picking, the list goes on & yes it does move an empty horse trailer with ease!
 
I have a Suzuki 400. It is one of the mid range ones. Perfect for what we need it for without being OTT. It will move trailers round, pull cambridge roller, chain harrows etc. It is petrol but not too expensive to run.

If we had a bigger place and I was more reliant on it - ie going thru fields to feed cows etc - REAL farm work - then I would upgrade. But for general medium weight stuff it is perfect.
 
Thanks all for your replies, and please don't blame me if you break your quads towing around empty horse trailers. Should have viewed Honda tonight but it sold before we could get there. oh well, keep on looking..
 
We had a Honda Big Red 250cc, it was fab, would pretty much pull anything, proper work horse. We used ours all the time from pulling, pushing, dragging, moving stuff, would defiinitely get another Honda.

Avoid the chinese import quads, they are rubbish and parts are a nightmare to get hold of.

Worth its' absolute weight in gold, the only thing on the farm that actually earns its keep.

It has made me into a very idle person as I never walk if I can get on the quad! It pulls harrows, rollers, hay rake, up to 50 bales of hay on a trailer at haying time, hauls trees, winches trees out etc, muck, hay, goes on ATV trail days, is road legal, shifts the horse trailer around the farm. Brilliant. It also carries a snow plough which is vital in winter.
I LOVE MY QUADLY.
 
no we've got a Hex!

Polaris 6x6, it has 6 wheels! and has a little tipper body on the back. We get a lot of snow up here, it was solid for 2 1/2 months this winter and have sheep, the Polaris is brill as it carries haybales, feed, water containers and can tow the livestock trailer. We bought it very second hand, dont even know how old it is, but wanted it very much as it runs on diesel which we have on site. I never liked quads cos of the racket they make and thought silly they didnt have any space to carry much, but this addresses all that.

Got a 250 Barossa RL quad, never actually pulled anything with it but I doubt it would stuggle! sorry doesnt answer your question but I thought I'd join the quad clique! :D
 
Just remember when you get a quad to insure it and make sure it is secure; I can think of 3 just this year that have been stolen locally. Around here, nothing walks faster than quads, it's almost a battle to beat the thieves and in our case, much as we would love another one, it's just not worth the hassle to us.!
 
Wow didn't know quads were so versatile. Managed to get hold of a Yamaha Big Bear tonight, coming tomorrow, know what you mean about thefts MFH9, it's getting bad round here too. Hubby is extremely security conscious, so it will either be booby trapped or he will be locking himself to it in the garage! LachlanandMarcus the Polaris looks absolutely fantastic but is a bit too big for what we need - can understand its value for you this winter tho. Thanks for all your comments - Sue x
